| [#8142] Beethoven's Broadwood piano Dr Klaus von Dohnanyi (born 1928), a German politician and elder brother of Christoph von Dohnanyi the conductor, chooses this 1976 Andras Schiff recording as his desert island disc. He remembered that his grandfather the pianist and composer Erno Dohnanyi (1877-1960) had played on this piano in Budapest. （見 Peter Ruzicka 所編的 "Musik fur die Insel"，北京的三聯書店在去年九月出版了中譯本，書名是《荒島音樂 ──德國的選擇》，頁 22 至 23。） Erno Dohnanyi's pupils include Geza Anda, Annie Fischer, and Sir Georg Solti. | [#8145] 已故 俄羅斯鋼琴家Egorov 7碟裝的紀念專輯 EMI幫已故的俄羅斯鋼琴家Youri Egorov (1954-1988）發行一套7碟裝的紀念專輯，即將在四月問世。Egorov1976年流亡荷蘭，並開始他的西方演奏生涯，33歲死於愛滋病，他以觸鍵優美纖細著稱，這套紀念專輯收錄了他在EMI的重要錄音，還包括傳說中的卡內基公演（1978），解說書達36頁。 Defection and Career in the West Feeling constrained by the Soviet system, Egorov defected from the Soviet Union in 1976 while on a concert tour in Rome, Italy. In 1977 Egorov participated in the Van Cliburn Competition in Fort Worth, Texas. He became an audience favorite. When he was not chosen as a finalist, some disappointed and angry listeners formed a committee led by American impresario Maxim Gershunoff, to raise money for Egorov equal to the Van Cliburn top prize of $10,000. The South African Steven DeGroote took the first place award that year. Gershunoff as Egorov's American manager presented his New York recital debut in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center on January 23, 1978. Three months later to the day, he appeared in Chicago, Illinois and a critic there dubbed his performance “the debut of the decade.” In July, 1978, Musical America Magazine selected Youri Egorov as their "Musician of the Month". He made his Carnegie Hall debut on December 16, 1978 once again under the aegis of Gershunoff. The concert was recorded live. Writing for The New York Times, Harold C. Schonberg said Egorov played "...in a free, romantic style, and his approach is quite different from that of so many competition winners." In August 1979, two of Egorov's albums appeared on Billboard Magazine's Best-Selling Classical LP chart. Throughout the 1980s Egorov played primarily in Europe. His last American appearance was in Florida in 1986. Egorov was featured in the book "Great Contemporary Pianists Speak for Themselves" compiled by Elyse Mach. In it, he spoke candidly on the topics of rehearsal, pre-concert nervousness, artistic restrictions in Russia, and homosexuality. | [#8146] Beethoven's Broadwood piano gs, For your information, I paid, in 2002, $725 and $91.8 respectively for Annie Fischer's Beethoven complete set and the CD single of her Schubert No. 21 Sonata and Liszt B minor Sonata. How time flies; and how depressing to learn that as we grow older, things get more expensive. Now, the Shun Cheong prices of these two items are $1,040 and $130. I am now playing another re-released Hungaroton CD: music for cello and piano by Bach, Debussy, Kodaly, Faure, and Bartok. Charming music and very cleanly focused sound (recorded 1987-1988). Booklet-notes written by Zoltan Kocsis. But at $117 after discount I don't think it's wise for me to recommend it.  |

I remember the great sense of loss expressed by the musical world when he died in 1988. "But when I'm gone from this earth, I simply hope that people remember me as a pianist with a good sound in the poetical sense of the word, with the music that becomes my communication, my language." (Elyse Mach, "Great Contemporary Pianists Speak for Themselves", Vol. 2, p. 60) Egorov excels in Schumann, Debussy, and Chopin. I hope the set will include his Bach and Scarlatti too.  |

| [#8160] Jos van Immerseel的貝交全集 又一以原創樂器格式化貝多芬交響曲的全集完成！這是由古鋼琴家兼指揮家Jos van Immerseel與Anima Eterna的革命性錄音，這並非Jos van Immerseel頭一次灌錄貝多芬交響曲，早在1998年到1999年間，他曾有過第5號、6號、9號的唱片發行，他為Sony錄音的年代，亦曾錄過舒伯特交響曲全集。 這次的貝多芬交響曲全集由法國廠牌Zig-Zag Territoires出版，該廠的network是Harmonia Mundi，也就是說，有可能會由上揚引進，大家拭目以待。  |

He has the balance of Arrau - both left and right hands are always discernable, every note, every harmony is well displayed. He has the intelligent sensibilities of Askenazy - every note sounds like hours of thought went into it. Musical notions are mature, and well-developed. But he is sonically dangerous like Kissin - his bass ROARS, his treble *~*sparkles*~*, and the whole range in between is well-defined. He is dramatic like Horowitz - he shows a wide field of emotions, from full rage to lugubrious tragedy, from buoyant happiness and unutterable joy, to oppressive melancholy and delicate passion - he displays all and many more. He is the most complete pianist in this sense, for many pianists fall into the trap of applying Chopin's music to their own vision - Argerich is lustful and wildly frantic in each piece, even Nocturnes; but humanity, as Harasiewicz demonstrates, is more than one emotion- it is an entire wealth of them, and he applies his own peerless and flawless technique to the pieces, not the other way around. His piano tone itself is gorgeous - and versatile. He can play softly, with a warm and swirling sound. He can play sharply, with a piercing sound. He can play with bell-like tones that glimmer and glisten like raindrops. Every sound conceivable is possible in his artistic palette!  |
