| [#8471] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Hi guys, Just now i swap two ECC83 (V1 and V2) on my leak st20. I swap them because i found that one of ECC 83 (Mullard) is brighter then other two when switch the amp on (they are different brand,one is Mullard and other two is Harma). This happen just few second.... After i swap them and switch the amp on. suddenly inside bottom of the retifier tube (Svotek 5AR4) have spark!! and i can hear "pi po pi po" sound from my speaker.....I'm very quickly switch it off, and switch it on again after few second. It still happen like before. Then i swap back V1 and V2 after few min. And i switch on the amp again. The amp operate normal and the retifier tube have no spark again.... Some one of you happen this before? Why it happen like this? That is the retifier tube problem or the amplifier circuit problem? Any side effect of the Amplifier? . And switch it on. Suddenly the retifier tube (sovtek 5AR4) have spark (inside bottom of the tube). And my speaker produce some spark sound like "pi pa pi pa". I'm very quickly switch it off. After few second, i switch on again. The amp still like this.... |

Woo! There will be many nights no sleep until end of the month. :( It was a big luxury yesterday p.m. to visit CP, and big, big luxury to have another half day next Monday. | [#8476] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Yesterday, Richard Yim, John Lo, Patrick and I went to CP Lo's workshop to listen his set up. It is an industrial building warehouse, so there isn't a lot of decoration inside the room. The acoustics of the room is compromised, we still had a very enjoyable afternoon. We listened to a pair of Klangfilm EL34 monoblocks, Knight KT66 monoblocks, McIntosch MC240, Maihak V73 EL40 monoblock, some Fisher pre amps and a passive pre amp with a Noble pot. All the amps sound very nice but with different characters. The McIntosh was a bit too boomy with the Spendor BC1. The Klangfilm didn't have enough time to warm up, so I cannot make my mind up. Perhaps Richard can add some comment for the Fisher pre amps. Two items really struck me as sonic bargains. I was most impressed with the German made Maihak V73 driving the BC1. Although the V73 can only produce a few watts, they are refined with superb midrange. The detail is also excellent. The bass is a bit light, but they are ideal for driving the sensitive BC1 and cure the overpowering bass. They just remind me of the virtues of single ended amps. In the past I didn't understand why 2A3, PX25 or 300B die hard fans like the directly heated single triodes with only a few watts output, but after listening to the V73, I can understand why the low power amps are liked so much. The V73 will be my next purchase hopefully. Another surprise is the tiny passive pre amp. The 10K Noble pot is grounded via a good quality 1.2K resistor. This modification has been discussed in various forums. In my opinion, this pre amp sounded a lot more transparent and clearer than the Fisher pre amps. When I get back to England, I will try it out myself. It was a very enjoyable afternoon, especially having the chance to meet CP and John Lo in person. Regards Hon  |

| [#8484] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Thanks for Hon posting the photos. Let me thank CP again and his friend for their hospitality. Here is my brief report. We started off with the EICO ST-84 preamp, MacIntosh 240 power amp, and Spendor BC1. To my ears, the bass is a failure but this is not necessary due to the gears, but the listening environment perhaps. Simply the square shape and the bare walls are to blame. So, I don't feel surprised that foam is added to partly block the venting holes. Woo.. with due respect, this changed the characteristics of the speakers, ending up at nowhere! |
