| [#8547] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Hi guys, As i know that most of Leak power amplifier have low input sensitivity (125mv) and the moden or vintage Pre-amp have high output sensitivity(200mv or 350mv). If need to connect to moden or vintage Pre-Amp. How reduce the Pre-amp output sensitivity to match the sensitivity at Leak power amp? By connect a resistor to the signal cable? If doing like that, the sound quality will effect? |

| [#8558] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user This afternoon, it was my first time to visit Richard's shop to listen to his set up. The speakers were LS3/5a and JR149. We mainly listened to the Maihak V73 and Leak TL12.1 driven by Richard and King's pre amp. The V73's have superb vocal reproduction and they sounded even better than last time when I heard them in CP's warehouse in Yuen Long. I am even brave enough to say that the midrange is more refined and seductive than the Leak TL12.1. The V73 sound just like some single ended amps. They are ideal for vocal and light music. However, the output power is limited, so there was some distortion when the music was louder. I won't say much about the TL12.1 - they are extremely good. I have read a lot about Richard and King's pre amp in Review 33 and it was no suprise to find that the pre amp was excellent in every respect. I would rate it as one of the best pre amps I have ever heard. It is a full range pre amp with extended low and high frequencies. The vocal is just right for my taste, being not too forward or too far back. The bass is tight and deep. It drove the V73 and TL12.1 with ease and they are like a match in heaven. I do like its "modern" presentation without the sluggishness of many vintage pre amps. We also listened to the Fisher 400CX pre amp. It is a very good pre amp, I will be just as happy if I own the Fisher, but being a person who prefers modern pre amp, I would choose Richard and King's pre amp for day to day use over the Fisher. We had dinner together afterwards and talked about a lot of things from audio to technology. There is nothing better than chatting to good friends with similar interests. I will miss this when I go back to England this Sunday. Regards Hon |
