| [#866] Beethoven piano sonatas: Annie Fischer LAst night I followed Mahler's intention by starting off with Wagner's The Mastersinger overturn then followed by Mahler's symphony no.7. I chose Szell's version for Wagner's overture and continued to listened to Bertini's box of Mahler complete symphony. Among the nine symphony of Mahler, his seventh symphony was the probably the least popular. Actually, Mahler's intention was clear enough, it was `a song of night', imagine a peaceful night in a countryside then you will understand the second and fourthh movement which was compose right after the tragical sixth symphony, I believe that Mahler want a moment of peace at that time also, while The first and fifth movement can be preceived as `Night and the return of Day'. Bertini's version sound bore when comparing with Abbado's version with Chicago symphony orchestra, under the baton of Bertini, everything seems to be a sight reading rather than a real intepretation, not only he cannot bring out the lyrical quality of second and forth movement, the first adn fifth movment lack the sense of joy and refreshment of early morning. I found Abbado's version much more satisfying.  |

| [#871] Bertini's Mahler Set CKM, I bought this box set last year and I have already listen to it for a few times before. But I never really hear its musical content until I read your comment. Mahler is so much more satisfying when someone is feeding me its musical background. The background provide a much better visualization on Mahler's theme. I really like what you are doing here. One need to get into a certain spiritual zone in order to have that level of understanding and drive. Keep zoning us, bro. You are definitely one of classical music MVP. P.S. I am waiting for the #8 as I like organ and big choir. |
