| [#8788] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user I just measured the leakage of the TCC Metalpack caps of my Leak Stereo 60 this morning. All four caps were leaking DC voltage to the EL34. I have some Erie caps from 1975 although I didn't know if they are paper in oil or their leakage. I put the Erie caps into the St60. Fortunately, they don't leak DC. The TCC caps will go into the rubbish bin. The St60 sounds very clear with very refined treble. The bass is not boomy. I am using a pair of Chartwell LS35a and EAR834L pre amp. The gain of the pre amp is too high for the 12.1 but it is just right for the St60 because there is a potential divider in the low gain input of the St60 which uses a 180k and 27kohm resistors. | [#8793] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Thanks Gingers for borrowing me the Leak ST60 and inviting me for the party today. My first impression of hooking the ST60 in my system is that it has similar character with my ST20, well they belong to the same family. Listening more, I found that ST60 has better control on bass and there are some sound that were unheard in my ST20, mostly in the treble end. It may be partly due to the different power tubes used, namely EL34 and EL84. |

| [#8799] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Hon, From their small size (for .25uf/1000V), I guess these are metal film caps, mostly likely dry inside. ![]() |

| [#8801] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Richard Thanks for your advice. There is no DC leakage from these Erie caps. I will most probably change them to modern polypropylene ones from Farnell. I just don't want to see my St60 on fire!! The 8ohm tap of one output transformer was only working intermittenly. I traced it back to the dried joint from the multi-strand wired soldered to the enamelled wire. It is now working properly now. The St60 even drives the inefficient ATC SCM12 nicely. | [#8802] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Hon, Look for the Super Metalpack TCC's, which are hardly found leaky. None in my experience so far. |

| [#8803] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user With the help of a China made capacitor tester (inexpensive!) which can discharge over 600V, we can pick out non-leaky Metalpack TCC capacitors for use in our LEAK amps. So far these caps remain good working and nice sounding. So, 'Metalpack' TCCs are not necessarily all unuseable. |

| [#8804] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user So, 'Metalpack' TCCs are not necessarily all unuseable. ------------------------------------ But of course, I meant the NOS TCC caps, not any of those used and removed from old amps. |
