[#926] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Just received the S.Richter lp playing the Tchaikovsky Grand sonata in G. A piece not often perform and record. Here Richter,s playing is really grand and majestic, the power from his hands is hard to believe. In lesser hands, this piece can be boring The other side of the disc is Schumann's Humoreske. Here Richter's playing is opposite to that in Tchai's grand sonata with delicate and sensitive touch. All in all a complete satisfactory reading and recording .

[#928] What are you listening to? ( classical mus After the hustle and bustle, Grieg's lyric pieces can give you a moment of peace. Leif Ove Andsnes's charming piano playing illuminated these short pieces, playing on Grieg's own piano, the result was sedative. His selection was different from Gilels classic version, but the playing was on the same level. ![]()

[#929] What are you listening to? ![]()

[#931] What are you listening to? ( classical mus After listening to many other Liszt concerto(Agerich,Brendel,Janis,Dichter) still feel Richter's one is the definitive version. For Mahler 9,other versions worth exploring ars Bernstein and Walter, the older I get the more I like Walter.

[#933] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Good morning kh33! Yes, Walter's Mahler just have that "right" feeling. Like the second symphony, I have yet to hear an opening that sounds as cosmic, as mysterious, as right as Walter's.

[#934] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Walter fans, the sony Cd version has a 30 minute interview with Walter on Ma9. It is nice to know what Walter's voice sounds like and his impression on Mahler.

[#935] What are you listening to? ( classical mus DJ, Your description on Walter's Mahler 9 is right on the mark. I have this 6eye Columbia lp which cost me a fortune and it also contains the saying by Walter.

[#936] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Walter, who was Mahler's assistant and protege and who also had a firm grip on the Bruckner orchestral canon, had his famous remark on the difference between the two composers being that Bruckner knew God and Mahler spent his entire life looking for him.

[#939] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Last night, listened to Brahms violin sonatas. Brahms' chamber music was probably his most personal output, every piece was lyrical and romantic, and his violin sonatas can certainly be considered as one of the greatest in musical history. The version I choose last night was by Issac Stern, Issac Stern have a thick and creamy tone and his playing was most romantic and lyrical, comparing with Suk/Katchen's classic version only showed that Stern was born to play Brahms. ![]()

[#941] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Walter is equally impressive on Bruckner. His Bruckner 9 got a rosette from the Penguin Guide. His reading is grand, balanced, and expansive, reflecting the devine power of this piece, and making you feel closer to God if you believe it.

[#942] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Still have to work on holiday, a little bit unhappy. Listened to Mozart's music last night, Mozart's music can always cheer me up, and most conductor can do it right when they played it in a simple innocent way, Capella Istropolitana and Wordsworth's version was very delightful, their playing was light and simple, let the music speak for itself. ![]()

[#943] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Music listening can be infectious. After the sublime writing by trollope on Mozart K333 I dig out my copy of Lili Kraus lp to refresh my memory. Her interpretation is fresh and spontaneous, with a trace of melancholy underneath. She used to quote Snabel " Mozart is too easy for a child and too difficult for adult. Her Mozart sonata cycle is worth exploring, there' is a saying "what Landowska was to Bach, Snabel to Beethoven, Walter to Mahler,Kraus is to Mozart" I also listened to Brahm's Violin sonata by Oistrahk and Richter. The reading is strong, warm and assertive with great rapport between the 2 giants. Highly recommended.
