| [#9953] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user http://motxam.interfree.it/Arecom.html Recommended components The hifi market is very confused and I would like to suggest some reference components to help your basic choice. Grundig amplifiers and speakers Grundig has produced several well-sounding components during the period 1977-86. They use an unusual project (similar to Linear Transfer) to solve "a particular HF intermodulation problem". Take a look to the "Grundig story". Classe' Audio DR3B The mid-high range is similar to Linear Transfer and Grundig but the depth and accuracy of soundstage is reduced comparing to them. Anyway it is a good solid state amplifier. Krell KSA 50 In my opinion it is the best Krell ever: very dynamic and harmonious. The mid-high range is just a little bit harsh. Leak TL 12 Point One One of the best tube amplifier: natural sound and wide soundstage, just a little bit reduced comparing to the L.T. or Grundig V1700 or V7000. The Leaks are old products and sometimes they are not in good conditions. Also the musical reproduction can change considerably in case of refurbishing: please, listen carefully. Pre DNM first edition It is very difficult to find this transistor preamplifier first edition (not the one battery powered). Recommended: uncoloured and with a good soundstage. Rogers LS3/5a 15 ohm The world famous mini monitor: probably the only two way well sounding in case of stand mounting. The only limit is the sound pressure at high volume. The 15 ohm crossover includes an autotransformer to adjust the tweeter's level instead of the resistor network of the 11 ohm version. Quad ESL63 The only dipole in my list: I prefer the ESL63 also to the old ESL. Rear wall absorbent required. Linear Transfer modification available to reach the best performance. Dahlquist DQ10 first edition One of the best multi-way floor standing speaker. Probably it does not reach the two way's coherence but it assures a really great sound. I recommend the installation using its standard 3 legs. In case you want to raise 10-15cm, please keep the front-rear tilt angle. The DQ10 Improved is not so recommended. Snell type A first edition The only problem of this speaker is the woofer-midrange crossover region: singers and some instruments are light and thin. A careful room placement can solve this problem and provide an impressive sound. B&W DM6 first edition The first edition has got the woofer level control, full-kevlar midrange, wood front panel. The DM6 is the best B&W ever, warm and harmonious. It is far better than the new "technological" B&W series. ----------------------------------- Some are stranges to me |

" I would say 99% of the times that an ORIGINAL, TL/12.1 is NOT in good, listenable condition. |
