It is an interesting item , a 12.1 came with a bigger transformer like the one use in 25A. Do you take a photo, showing the internal of the amplifier? What are the model number of the transformer? | [#10114] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user For Others, The left in the photo below is the OPT (double-bobbin) from a LEAK TL/12.1 (under restoration). The upper and lower halves of the primary coil were winded in the left and right bobbins respectively. This structure ensures a perfect symmetry between the upper and lower halves in terms of: (a) inductance (determined by the number of turns) and (b) DC impedance (determined by the length and diameter of magnetic wires used). Double-bobbin is costly because of much more labour is required and used only in LEAK TL/12.1 and 25A so far I found. (Perhaps a Pye amp as well? but I doubt.) Single-bobbin OPT can achieve in (a) perfectly, but cannot achieve equally good in (b). Famous single-bobbin OPTs such as Acrosound TO-330 (used in EICO HF-60) and Chicago output transformers (e.g. in Bean Echo DL7-35, EICO HF-35, etc.), achieve very high symmetry in (b) as I measured them before. It is common sense for all level tube amp lovers! :) by Richard :-)  |
