| [#10290] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user A Leak stereo 20 amplifier in excellent condition. The amplifier has been professionally serviced and fully tested. The sound quality is excellent with good bass and no hum. Any pre amp can be used with this amplifier as it has phono inputs. All of the valves have been tested on an AVO valve tester and found to be in good condition. The valves are 4xEL84, 4xECC83 and 1xGZ34 - all of which are made in Great Britain by Mullard. Any faulty components have been replaced with quality replacements. The original components will be sent with the amp, also a 3 pin Bulgin mains connecting plug is included in this sale. There is a slight nick to the paint work near the octal socket (please see photos), otherwise the paint work is extremely good. ________________________________________________ Got another ST-20 with all Mullard tubes at GBP466.00 ^++++^  |

My BC1 is best driven by Marantz 9 and the german V73, not Leak or Quad; of course I still do not have the 12.1 yet. Even the Altec 1568 drives the BC1 better than the British amps. On the other hand, the best match for JBL4311 is the McIntosh 240 but it doesn't match too good with KLH Model 6. Model 6 seems to pair better with Scott and Fisher. I believe it is the type of tubes that matters. And now I have the ESL57 with which Quad II is always hailed as the best match. But in my case, the Marantz 9 seems to be a much better much. So your statement could be generally accepted but with too many counter-examples. So mathematically or by scientific experiment principal, the statement is false. |

It is not difficult to understand why this usually happen. The best part of British Spk can be easily displayed by British amp. And you should agree WE spk is best match with WE amp. ARU-180 |

What i'm saying is it is generally easier to get a match between british amp with british speaker and american amp with america speaker, i.e. without a great mismatch problem. It is not necessary they make the best match. This mix and match game is interesting, explorable and adventurous. Just my humble opinion. |

But it would be more beneficial and helpfulto new guy like me to learn more if you could generously share your experience on those matching on the net. I totally agree with ARU-180 hing that the mix and match games are interesting, explorable and adventurous. But the results are rather subjective, right? BTW, Gingers hing, I use MC240 to drive JBL Soverign S8R. It performs smooth and sweet Mid and High frequency yet rather soft bass. For some jazz music, I'd prefer to have some irritation at low frequncy say some punch. That's why I'm looking for some other amps. Your guidance please. Best Regards. Samkee |

| [#10304] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user I hesitate to say that it is naive to argue that only British amp would match well with British speakers and US amp with US speakers, without highlighting the underlying, determining factors such as impedance and nominal impedance of speakers, damping factors of amps, etc.. I ALWAYS find US made amp, e.g. EICO HF-60, drives Britain made speakers, e.g. LS3/5A, sound great. :) |
