[#1025] What are you listening to? ( classical mus This time, Tasmin Little plays in Waterloo Station. Her Stradivarius is recognized by a homeless man from Cremona. http://enjoyment.independent.co.uk/music/features/article2464166.ece

[#1029] Roge Got this SACD/CD from the library. Superb playing. Surprisingly, the playing of the Vienna Radio Symphony is exciting and idiomatic under its French director Bertrand de Billy. This is a true DSD recording. The sound is stunning even heard as CD. ![]()

[#1032] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Listen to quite some records last nite in bits and pieces, but the main one was Annie Fischer playing Schumann piano concerto in A minor, the conductor wa Otto Klemperer. If I were only allowed one version of the concerto, this is it. Beside the impeccable technique, the interpretation is right on spot, allowing you to feel the mood of the composer and his music, sensitive, romantic, a bit neurotic yet full of passion.

[#1034] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Thank you Doctorjohn, rcwy, cylam and DIYer for visiting me yesterday, I would like to hear some comment, although my system is by no mean `Hi-Fi'. Listened to Hadyn's piano sonata last night, give me a moment of peace after few busy days. Andnes playing was urgent and natural, I found his tone superior to Brendel, great playing and recording. ![]()

[#1036] What are you listening to? ( classical mus I just got this 2-CD Japanese RCA set. The Festival Quartet (Szymon Goldberg, William Primrose, Nikolai Graudan with pianist Victor Babin) play the 3 piano quartets of Brahms and Schubert's trout. Excellent. Goldberg's violin has a refined and 了了下 quality. Mesmerizing. Babin is better known as half of the justly famous Babin and Vronsky (wife) piano duo (beautiful Rachmaninov). His playing is immaculate. ![]()

[#1037] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Thanks doctorjohn for introducing good neighbour chankaiming to me, his classical collections open my eyes. I am sure I will have a lot of music talk sharing with him. After going to rcwy's workshop, I could not forget his system performance. In order to make me forget what is hi fi, I listen to this "Horowitz 25th Anniversary of his American Debut" especially his "Chopin Nocturne in E Minor". Dr. Chan, you are always welcome to visit me. ![]()

[#1038] Trevor Pinnock and friends 25-26/04/2007 Trevor Pinnock and Friends APA Concert Hall It surprised me that, despite the presence of a large British Consulate crowd who occupied downstairs, the hall was not sold out for an event of this caliber. Trevor Pinnock was on tour with his new European Brandenburg Ensemble, and three of its members came with him to HK. Katy Bircher, Baroque flute; Kati Debretzeni, Baroque violin; and Jonathan Manson, Baroque cello. On the 25th, they played Bach’s Trio Sonata for flute and violin; Toccata for harpsichord; Vivaldi cello sonata, Bach Flute sonata, Bach violin sonata and Telemann Paris Quartet. APA student cellist Ye Hui served sometimes as continuo. It is not necessary to write about their virtuosity. Pinnock played with excellent color. It was the first time I realized the bass notes of the harpsichord actually resemble the organ’s. Bircher’s flute was beautifully smooth. Manson and Debretzeni were more powerful and incisive. I particularly like the latter’s strong phrasing and leadership quality. On the 26th, the quartet played with the Academy Baroque Ensemble, which comprised 7 violins, 2 violas, 1 cello and 1 bass, under the direction of Trevor Pinnock. The opening Handel Concerto Grosso blew the HKPO’s awkward job under De Waart to pieces. Bach’s Brandenberg Concerto #5 was lovely. The second half was Benda’s beautiful flute concerto, followed by Vivaldi’s violin concerto, during which Debretzeni broke a string. All delightfully done. The students did great. A beautiful pair of concerts played in exemplary period style. It should be said again that the concert hall has great acoustics.
