| [#10448] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user End at 149 GBP. Manufactured for U.K. Gov't post WWII issue Power valve type KT66 ,( this valve over-printed VT75 - 25 , 10E/11533 made in England by the M.O. valve Co. Ltd with ' crown' + A.M. D798 and G.E.C. 94 matched ) for use in radio and amplifier equipment, this valve tested in a Class A audio amplifier with 300 volts HT supply and found to be in good working order . | [#10450] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Richard, How does that work? I understand the sensitivity of Leak, Eico and SS amp are all VERY different! ---------------------------------------------- Tim, Thanks for asking! Of course I am not an expert (you are more an expert) but just share a bit from this project. The issue of INPUT IMPEDENCE of a power amp is more an issue apart from INPUT SENSITIVITY of a power amp. In tackling different "drive" requirements of power amps, the 27M adopts the design that is good for a wide range of requirements. The attenuator design places lesser emphassis on an attenuator (VR), but we still use high quality, stepped attenuators with high quality resistors. In dealing with input impedence of power amps, the 27M has TWO pairs of pre-amp outs (see the photo below): (inner pair) NORMAL impedence (outer pair) LOW/NORMAL impedence. As there are 2 twin-diodes, 5687, as cathode following in the output stage, each pre-amp out uses a single side of the 5687 and a different magnitude of coupling capacitor, the 27M can drive single-amping (using inner OR outer outs depending on the power amps driven), or bi-amping (using BOTH inner and outer outs to drive power amps of suitable input impedence). Solid state power amps usually have low input impedence which is not easy for vintage tube pre-amps. We believe the 27M "outer" outs are good for solid state power amps and thus will make solid state amps sound more "tube" like. On the other hand, both the "inner" and "outer" outs of the 27M are good for tube power amps. Given 27M's high resolution power that an average vintage tube pre-amp does not possess, the 27M can actually make vintage audio sound with the missing details, more airy, and with more micro-dynamics. This ability has been proved before many vintage fans. We would do more tests with different power amps, particularly with hi-end solid state power amps, before the 27M is launched. | [#10451] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user (inner pair) NORMAL impedence (outer pair) LOW/NORMAL impedence. I meant the four RCA sockets at bottom horizontal line . The RS232 socket in the middle is for electronic protection built in between the pre-amp main unit and the power supply unit. |

[#10452] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Richard, Thanks for the explanation but does it mean the 27M can drive Leak TL12.1 with 125mV input sensitivity and insensitive SS pwoer amp both using a large range of the volume pot (i.e. instead of using only 6:30 to 8:00)?

[#10453] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Tim, "Thanks for the explanation but does it mean the 27M can drive Leak TL12.1 with 125mV input sensitivity and insensitive SS pwoer amp both using a large range of the volume pot (i.e. instead of using only 6:30 to 8:00)?" there is something that richard does not know yet. there will be a gain switch in the amp for sensitive power amp. this will reduce the gain as well as the noise floor. given this the volume control is still meaningful.

[#10455] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Tim, "That is what I suspected but cannot find on the front plate of the 27M. Now I understand." i must say it does not completely solve the problem since the gain difference is too much. there is a limit to the reduction in gain without causing havoc to the circuit. i'm afraid to solve the problem completely will have to be a 27D rather 27M. 27D will have a 1000 steps volume control. your 6:30 to 8:00 will translate into over 100 steps. that should be fine enough i suppose.

[#10456] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user I see. But I suggest the 27M can be custom-made for particular power amp then.
