That doesn't sound right. My Slim devices have been solid in the hardware reliability department. There is occasional software glitches but nothing serious.

It may be worthwhile to take advantage of the 7 days return policy to make sure there is no dormant gremlins hidden in your box.

I connected the Duet by ethenet as suggested, connection is extremely stable.

I placed the Duet on top of a center spk which is on top of my rack. I believe the temp. is not very hot.

But it is now no problem, perfect condition for music replay from my imac's music library, but I am now struggle to set the synology's software to make it provide music file for the duet.

It is very challenging, if not suferring, to merge a NAS into a SB replay system. I am still not sure if it could do the job or should I turn my old small computer into a server instead.....

I am a beginner struggling to merge the two into one CAS solution.....very difficult for a computer idiot, but fun and challenging.

At the moment, I can have the duet running smoothly from my iMac. Adding a NAS to imac is not difficult, the duet is able to find it. I rip 2 cds into the NAS vis itunes, where I set the music server at the NAS, from what I saw in the imac's itunes, the cds were sucessfully saved in the NAS, however, my duet controller told me there was no music in the NAS. While I tried to solve the problem, the NAS hanged and I have to go to work.....

The problem seems to be a setting problem in synology software(or itunes? or Squeeze center? not sure)

Why u need to add an NAS to the iMac, not enough memory?

If u set the NAS as the server in the iMac, then u have to re-set the library source in the SqueenCenter setup, you have to clear the library and rescan all the CDs one more time..

dear 225 hing, thanks for your detailed explanation!

Now I can finally play music via NAS.

But only 1 cd I can read, the other is still missing.....:P looks like I have some more work to do.

I use NAS is because I wish I can play music without turning on my iMac, and my imac has not enough space, as I have lots of pictures of my children, moreover I need a storage device for these photos......seems like a goood idea to have a NAS....I also planned to buy a e-sata external HDD to connect with my NAS for even larger storage space......

next step I might try to turn my old HP media PC into a linux based server....depiste the large size, i think it will be a lot faster than the Synology.......may or may not work, just for fun(most importantly, its free of charge :)) all i need is an extra HDD.......

I sucessfully rescan and have the 2 cd ripped into my synology played on Duet. BUt when I tried to rip some more into the synology, the imac's itunes doesn't allow me to set server location at synology......which I did once for ripping the 2 cds on sunday. any idea?

I don't use iTunes to organize my SC.

With my Windows system I just have to put a file called folder.jpg into my music folder and SqueezeCenter finds it automatically.

Mahi can you confirm how to do it in Mac/iTunes?

i'm very primitive and don't have a single album artwork!

but i did try to find a few for my wife's machine, just google search itune album artwork and then it'll lead you to a lot of websites which tell you what to do. for chinese or japanese albums, you'd need to search over the internet one by one, and then clip the artwork into your itune manually.
