[#11027] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user I have only seen two similar BBC spec TL12.1 in Chu Kee in Tat Fat building. This must be the rarest TL12.1 in this planet. I have asked the seller what output impedance settings are available from this TL12.1

[#11028] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user There seems to be too many wires soldered to the output transformer. Unusal. Besides, it has 2 extra taps which are found only in the OPT of TL/25A for negative feedback. The larger size of this OPT also suggest that it is unusual. If it is NOT for home use, better keep your figers off!

[#11031] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Richard I am still waiting of the response from the TL12.1 seller. If it turns out to be a l00V line output transformer, the amp will be no use at home! I am just curious about this amp because it has historic value but no audio value for home users. Hon

[#11032] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user it seems that early 12.1 for BBC has the large opt. tran, judging form the small # of 21. the later ones serial # 255? are with output trans. similar to the normal 12.1. ![]()

[#11033] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Early units had open-frame transformers, wound on fully-cheeked bobbins (not un-like those used today), and the wiring from the transformer coil to the terminal plate can be seen above the chassis. Possibly around 1952/53, transformers with pressed-steel shrouds were introduced. Some TL/12 amplifiers around this time had a mix of open and enclosed transformers on the one chassis. http://home.pacific.net.au/~kiewavly/TL12_50yrs.html ![]()

[#11034] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user I just received a reply from this special TL12.1 seller: "We have established that 100 volts a/c into ONE of the primary windings give 29 volts a/c output on each of the secondaries." It seems to me that the ratio of the primary to secondary of the output windings is 4:1. Hon

[#11035] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user It seems to me that the ratio of the primary to secondary of the output windings is 4:1. -------------------------------------------- KT66 in push-pull usually requires a load of 3 to 5K..(?) A ratio of 4:1 means that the speakers should not be the home type! Bidders, be forwarned!

[#11037] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Ky invested a lot in the coupling capacitors.. all 10 are Super Metalpacks! ![]()

[#11038] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Honestly, the last two (per 12.10) are necessarily be Super Metalpacks (which works at 300 to 400V). Ordinary "Metalpack" are more than enough for the rest 6. But of course, Ky's option of 10 SMPs could put his heart at rest for a long, long time. ![]()

[#11040] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user The beautiful Chartwell in rosewood visited me last night. _________________________________________________ Hi KY, Does Jo Ki pair of Chartwell sing beautifully with your Leak 12.1? By the way, just to set the record right, his pair is not 100% original as he had changed the in internal foam and did some minor repair to the drivers. Ace

[#11043] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Richard, About the VR pot. Would it mean my pair will have same gain as the standard 12.1 when the VR volume adjust to maximum? What's your recommendation for the volume fixing/setting for cd (variable output) + 400cx + BBC12.1. 1. 400cx (9-10 o'clock)? 2. BBC12.1 VR (12 o'clock)? 3. cd - variable?

[#11044] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user KY, "Would it mean my pair will have same gain as the standard 12.1 when the VR volume adjust to maximum?" 100% correct. "What's your recommendation for the volume fixing/setting for cd (variable output) + 400cx + BBC12.1. 1. 400cx (9-10 o'clock)? 2. BBC12.1 VR (12 o'clock)?" The VRs of your 400CX and BBC 12.1 both have soft spots. You need to experiment what postions the resultant sound is optimal. As with my own 400CX, I like to use the VR between 8:00 to 11:00. I remember your BBC 12.1's VRs were usually set to about 2:00 with my 400CX. But of course your speakers, listening environment, etc. may be different. "3. cd - variable?" Keep the CDP's VR at maximum to let the preamp take control. Richard
