In April this year, I saw a Leak TL12.1 amp with 100V line output transformer for sale. The seller told me this: "We have established that 100 volts a/c into ONE of the primary windings give 29 volts a/c output on each of the secondaries."

I asked Steve Spicer about the output impednace of such line output transformer, this is his reply:

The output transformer is the same size as the
ones in TL/25A amps. I also see that it has a 5th secondary, which is the separtae feedback widning as on the TL/25A.

I assume that when you say "one primary", that is the winding for just one KT66.
If so, we can
Full-primary to one-secondary voltage_ratio = (100+100)/29 = 200/29 = 6.89

Full-primary to one-secondary impedance_ratio = ((100+100)^2)/(29^2) = 47.5

If we assume that the KT66 valves are have about 6000 Ohms plate-to-plate load (a not un-reasonable assumption)

The the secondaries will configure as follows:

All four in parallel: 126 Ohms load required (39 Vrms for 12 W)

Two in parallel, which are in series with another
two in parallel: 504 Ohms load required (77 Vrms for 12 W)

Two in parallel, which are in series with another
two in series: 1135 Ohms load required (116 Vrms for 12W)

All four in series: 2016 Ohms load required (155 Vrms for 12W)

Hope this information is useful for reference in future.

For modern caps which we take it for granted that they work normal, a capacitance meter is OK (for matching capacitance value). But for vintage caps, we need to do more.

Before you may do that (risking in the amp), check if any slight "short" (i.e. leakage) inside. There are proper capacitor checkers that generate voltage at your requirement. A few members here have these machines, who are requested to share.

Just to avoid the "metalmite"! The chance of "metalmite" being leaky is over 90%. "Metalpack" is better, less than 50% leaky. "Super metalpack" is perhaps always good so far I found. But nobody should say SMP lasts forever. It is just that SMP tests like modern PIO caps in terms of leakage-proof.

Thanks for Hon sharing the above information. Indeed the information is useful as it tells us that"

a) the NON-DOMESTIC TL/12.1 mates with high impedence speaker (120 ohm to 2K ohm) or PA speaker (that uses a step down transformer; NO domestic low impedence speakers may be used with these amps unless there is a step-down transformer;

b) the actual meaning of the ordinarily called "100V output" amp. "100V output" means the strength of the output in terms of Vrms for the delivery of the rated output power at the required high impedence.

Note that both the TL/25 Plus and the TL/50 Plus had a heat-shield to protect the mains transformer from the radiant heat from the output valves (although advertising shows that the earliset models made seemed to lack this feature). In the TL/50 Plus, a filter choke resides next to the power transformer (not visible due to the heat shield).
