| [#1212] Western Electric amps and associated equip Mr Ng, I heard the 131A before using non-WE tubes matching with an ordinary sounding preamp, it has no match with the 86. Yesterday ,I heard the 131A again with all WE tubes and the 106C preamp(trans-based vol pot), the sound is quite shocking to me, on smaller ensembles such as jazz, chamber and popular vocal, its better than the 86 by a not small margin, only on music of larger scale, the 86 has its mejestic power which is convincing and overwhelming in a life-like presentation.Too bad it is only rated at 8 Watts,not sufficient to drive my horn system,otherwise I would order a pair immediately. |

| [#1220] Western Electric amps and associated equip Peter, I am using full set of 50’s Western Electric tubes on my 86; from 262, 300B to 274, I believe Mr Wu’s 86 are in their best possible sounding condition. We all know tubes are the soul of an amp system, you will be amazed the difference between Chinese made 300B compare to 50’s 300B from Western Electric’ we are talking nite and day and totally different ball game. I understand you have listened Mr. Wu’s 86’s with Chinese made 300Bs to 131 with Western Electric 348 & 349, that’s not a fair comparison between the 2. I also have a pair of Mr. Wu’s 131 with 349 tubes but with 6J7 instead of 348 and I have auditioned them for months; the conclusion is I love both amps in difference aspect of life, if $$$$ is not an object everyone should own both amps for life; of course with original Western Electric tubes. 131 gives you 通,清,爽 ,靘 whereas 86 has the magic touch of 艷,濃,狡,麗.Which one do you like. |
