Wanna know how Wanda Landowska, the supreme queen of harpsichord, ever stay away from flu, cold etc.? Harold Schonberg, the famous music critic, visited Landowska one day, at that time she was already in her late 70's but still very active in her music life. The graceful old lady played a short piano piece for Schonberg and then went into the kitchen to prepare some tea. Schonberg looked around the house and was admiring the tasteful decor of the house when he suddenly found a condom put in a vase of water on top of the piano. While having tea with the old lady, Schonberg eventually couldn't help and asked Landowska why she put the condom in the vase of water. Landowska told him "One day I had a walk in the Central Park and saw this ad - keep this wet and keep all diseases away. So I bought one back and put it in the water. Miraculously it works. I haven't had a flu for almost 2 years!" Landowska died in 1959 at the age of 82. |
