You may try WE329a high power pentode driving 300B ; or two stage of direct heated triode in place of two stage indrect triode (6sn7 equivalent) Later method doesn't give you special benefit during playing music loud in hifi party. But you know what when listen quietly to the details and micro-dynamic.. cheers |

| [#13170] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Hi Guys..This is one of my very loved power amplifier.Steven Spicer 50 (LEAK hybrid).It is a very original amp with a strong Leak design influence.If you don't know Steven Spicer,he is one of the biggest fan of Leak amplifiers,electronic engineer,very reputable designer, I don't have to say anything else, please check this link(this is his actual site): http://www.werple.net.au/~kiewavly/audio1.html You will find a lot of informations in regard of classic equiment,Tannoy,Lowter,Leak,etc,etc..My amplifier is called Stereo 50,this is the link where you can find all the technical data: http://home.vicnet.net.au/~vic3d/audio/S50.html To describe the unit...never seen such top quality work,the amp is a MASTER CLASS .It is a very large and heavy unit.50cm long,34cm wide and 25cm high.Big transformers.It's running on 240V.It has 2 12AX7 input valves,4 12ATs and 4X 6550/KT88s.I have replaced the output tubes,they are new,Electro Harmonix KT88EHs,they had maximum 15 hrs use.New 12AXs LPS Sovtek and 4X12AT Marconi,old stock originals.When I took the photos I had different Sylvania input valves,if you want them,not a problem,you can have them,up to you.I think the Sovtek and Marconi sound better.The overal condition is excelent,actualy the chasy is so nice,it is actualy very hard to find such quality.The input has a 3 stage switch so you can acomodate different input sensitivity preamps.Underneath there are links for 4 and 8 ohm speakers.,you have to change the configuration and do some soldering,I think.At the moment it is on 8 ohm mode.I have the book with the circuit and is all explained there.The display is for biassing the valves ,you just have to read the book and actualy it's very easy to replace valves and bias the unit,YOU DON"T NEED A MULTIMETER..just read the display-meter and set the meter to 0 with every valve separate,sounds complicated but actualy it's easy.You can see on the top of the amp the variable pots where you bias the valves,one for each output tube and one for each of the 3 small input valves.What else can I say...the only thing I can find not 100 percent it's a bit of buzzing noise comming from the power transformer,I am not shure if is not maybe a bit loose,I didn't try to rectify the problem because i didn't disturbed me,you only can hear it when you stop playing music,if you want to be pickky probably you may want to do something about it,otherwise the amplifier playes fantastic.never gets hot,clean,detailed,rich,musical sound.I use the amplifier a lot in the past for couple of years and NEVER had any problems.You can play it all day and stays only warm..I used it with a Cary SLP90 preamp also with a passive 50K only volume control.With the passive it's sounded clean but not so dynamic but if you conect to a proper preamp the musicality of this amp is quite special.Make shure your preamp has an earth link otherwise you get a buzz thru the speakers.I know from Steven the unit has very expensive output transformers and choke..it has costed a lot of money to built.It is very heavy,It can't be sent with Australia Post,you need a Courier Service,I think it is arround 30Kg..I can pack it very well and pack the valves separate,bubble wrapp,double box,etc,etc..I asure you I will do a top job.Please contact me if you need more informations or pictures,I am happy to help.The unit needs to be insured and registred.All the expenses are the resposnability of the buyer.if you live in Melbourne,you can pick up the unit from Dandenong where i work.I would say the cost of the transport inside Australia will be in the 100$ mark,depends where you are.I am not charging extra for packing or time spent..only how much the actual transport costs.No reserve,the amplifier has to go,unfortunately..I need to reduce the size of my colection...to much own on the Credit Card also to many problems with my lovely woman due space in the unit....Good Luck.  |

| [#13172] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user This amplifier was built as a custom design for a client using Quad ELS63 loudspeakers. A second unit was built for the use of the designer. The output stage uses 2 x KT88 kinkless tetrodes in a conventional ultra-linear (or distributed load) configuration. Three stages of driver circuitry are used. The design uses three stages of gain, but with some local feedback to increase linearity. The circuit is automatically self-balancing so that the drive to the ouput stage is equal for each valve, and will not vary as the driver valves age or vary. Power output is 50 Watts per channel, from the Class AB output stage. Quiescent current is 60mA per valve. The power supply used one power transformer, two 5AR4 rectifiers in parallel, and a choke-input filter design for improved regulation under load.  |

| [#13174] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user rcwy The anode voltage of the first stage (EF86) in my TL10 is way below spec. (80V compared with 100V) same on both units. I have tried new EF86 tubes, situation not improved. The HT voltage leaving the smoothing cap (32 uF) before it get cross the resistor into the anode appeared normal at close to 160V. It is only the anode voltage of the EF86 failed to get close to spec. What may be the reason? Thanks for your advice. |
