| [#13190] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user I use the 215/235 tap. I did try to use the higher tap before, but it gives much higher HT voltage 430V (compared with 400V spec.) after the rectifier. If I use the 215/235 tap, the DC voltage after the rectifer is just right, at 400V. |

| [#13191] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Hi cing2003, It's not unusal to select a primary voltage that meet the desire HT. Just watch out for the following: 1. Heater voltage. Try to stick to 6.3v as it could do more damge to the valves than a slighlty higher working HT. 2. Transfomer overheat. Go without explaining. I am sure you understand the importance of staying cool. Measure the value of the three reisitors correspond to the current cnsumption of the EF86 R5, 100k R3 470k Basis resistor should be 2.2k Best, catbill --------------------------------- Chi, What Catbill hing suggested is sensible. I guess the 20V loss is due to a cumulative effects of each of the drifted resistors concerned. 20% drop is considered marginally acceptable by the standard of +/- 20% for "vintage amps". If you are really concerned about the 20% drop, replace ALL the concerned resistors by RMG which is accurate enough and test the new voltages. BTW, even the EF86 is new, it does not mean its current through will be standard and will be the same with another "new" EF86. Use the SAME set of tubes including the EF86, new or old doesn't matter, to compare BOTH units. If the deviation in voltage, if any, is within a reasonable range, say 10%, don't bother, and sit back and enjoy! |
