The TL/10 was introduced as a lower cost alternative to the famous TL/12, but maintained the distortion rating of 0.1%. This amplifier was the first Leak amplifier to incorporate the "ultra-linear" output stage configuration (popularised by Hafler and Keroes from the USA in the early 1950's, but earlier proposed by Blumlein), and many consider the TL/10 to be much under-rated these days. Leak certainly did not skimp on the ratings or size of the transformers, as they are identical in size to the TL/12 Plus (and Stereo 20 in the case of the output transformer).

This amplifier was also the only Leak circuit to use a single, common cathode resistor in the output stage (all other Leak valve circuits used separate cathode resistors for each output valve, which should reduce the dc-unbalance in the output transformer). However, some TL/10's were issued with separate cathode resistors, individually by-passed as with other Leak circuits. The circuit diagrams for both variants are available at this web site.

The KT61 valve is rather unusual. It has a very high transconductance, and substitutes are hard to find without loosing performance (see below for Leaks recommended replacements) . The Mullard EL33 is a contender as a substitute valve. The author has tried EL34's and 6V6's, but found they do not perform all that well in the TL/10.

Technical Summary:
Valves: EF86, 6SN7, 2xKT61 in ultra-linear. Leak state that the Brimar 6AG6G is an exact equivalent to the KT61. Leak state that 6L6 valves may be used in place of the KT61 if various circuit modifications are made (cathode bias resistor changed from 100 Ohms to 300 Ohms/3Watt, the associated bypass capacitor omitted, the first stage plate resistor increased to 330kOhm, and the resistor feeding the first stage screen changed from 470kOhm to 1MOhm). 10 Watts output. 5Z4 rectifier. Gold enamel finish.

5Z4 rectifier

My TL/10 came with a pair of BRIMAR 5Z4GT.
This morning I replaced them with a pair of NOS 5Z4GY and they still sing.

As far as I know

5Z4

The 5Z4 was designed to supply equipment of up to 40 Watts total power, this rectifier was made by several manufacturers. This suggests it became a very popular type. The miniature metal octal type was introduced in America by RCA during the mid 1930s.

5Z4G

The 5Z4G is a full wave rectifier. Professional equipment, including radar, etc., sometimes required circuits in which valve cathodes carried large signals and had to 'float' at voltages well below that of the chassis. Glass-envelope '-G' versions of common types were therefore required. The metal envelope valves had to have the outer envelope at below cathode potential to prevent them acting as an anode so were at a disadvantage.
Initially, these '-G' versions were larger than their metal counterparts but with the introduction of 'pinchless', slimline '-GT' types 5Z4GT the advantage of the compact metal types was reduced to the point where RCA decided to phase out production in favour of (slightly cheaper) all-glass types.
Type U52 is given as an 'equivalent'. This is not strictly true although both types have comparable ratings and compatible pin connections. Type U52 is directly heated and will therefore provide its full output within a second or so from switch-on from cold, ie. before other (indirectly heated) valves in the set are ready to conduct.
The likely result is a damaging HT surge for at least several seconds each time the set is switched on. Type 5Z4 is indirectly heated and although heater and cathode are internally connected, the heater-cathode insulation is deliberately thickened so that the rectifier's cathode heats slightly more slowly than the other valves, thus eliminating HT voltage surges.
Designed to supply equipment of up to 40 Watts total power, this rectifier was made by several manufacturers. This suggests a very popular type, and one that found use in military equipment during WW2.
The classic envelope is 42 mm in diameter and, excluding the IO base pins, is 100 mm tall.

5Z4GT

The 5Z4GT was designed to supply equipment of up to 40 Watts total power, this rectifier was made by several manufacturers. This confirms it as a very popular type. The GT miniature octal type was introduced after the original metal 5Z4 of the mid 1930s, and the standard glass 5Z4G versions had become established. It illustrates the trend to smaller devices.
The wide glass tube envelope is 38 mm in diameter and excluding the IO base pins, is 69 mm tall.

The GZ30 full wave rectifier was designed for larger domestic equipment and audio amplifiers. The maximum reservoir capacitor was 50 µF and the minimum effective series resistance had to be 380 Ohms. The maximum peak inverse voltage was 1.4 kV.
Zaerix was the brand name of Z&I Aero Services who were suppliers of specialist and foreign sourced spares in the 1960s and 1970s. Thanks to Alf Parker for the company information.
The wide glass (GT) envelope is 28 mm in diameter and, excluding the IO base pins, is 63 mm tall.
