| [#1373] Western Electric amps and associated equip Mr Wu,I still think the 41+42 PX25/300B version needs another amplification stage, i.e. 205D as driver between the 264C and the power tubes no matter its the PX25 or the 300B or 252A. Ricky, I said a year ago the 44A is a world class preamp, I still think it is as of todate though I heard some very good stuff lately. |

| [#1375] Western Electric amps and associated equip The 205D RL is 8K (or 6K-10K) whereas the 264C interstage is 15K-18K to 80K, so if Mr Wu wants to make the adjustment on the 264C from 15K:180K to 8/10K:180K that may be possible but need to make certain adjustment on the circuit, take out the 285 may be one of the choice. Again it is very similar to 86B but just exchange the driver tubes from 262 to 264C and 205D. |

The two 264C are sharing the same filament PSU (connected in series). if 205D is put in driver stage, a separate filament PSU is required..... |

| [#1377] Western Electric amps and associated equip Yes, there should be changes in the circuit and PSU to cater for the 205D's electrical characteristics,remember Mr Wu is almost Mr 'nothing impossible' provided he's willing to try and of course he has spare time to do it.The reason I suggest putting 205D between the first driver and the power tube is that I have done it before,trancoupled(264C core wired to fit the 205D)and the result is exordinary, though what I tried was a SE circuit, and the power tube used was the Mullard DO24. It was Mr Wu's early creation, 300B was also tried but the DO24 was much much better. |
