| [#13790] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Today is the third day restoration ---------------------------------------- I think I have solved the red plate problem. If you owns a 12.1 you will see there is one ELECTROLYTIC capacitors 25uF next to each coupling 0.25uF. I was so stupid I have overlooked the circuit I did not wire the PIN 3 of both el84. That means one of the el84 was not given a 100uF ELECTROLYTIC, making an abnormal glow in the plate :-) Sorry I cannot express myself well. I have to say thanks to Richard and DD for their giving hands during the restoration :-) What's the sound of my Gold Pilot? It sounds nice as an el84 tube amplifier should be, especially the female vocal. My ears were too sensitive to el84 before. However, after my ears turn bad, I am able to stand the el84 for more time. An el84 amplifier really sings with LS3/5A :-)  |

There is still a long road to go. I have to buy a quad of 0.1uF coupling capacitors as one of the them was still leaking 1.2V. And I have to fine tune the amplifier. How I can see from your BIC advertise picture and from my advertise, the Leak Stereo 20 has just a black screen logo, the early LEAK logo. It meants that the Stereo 20 has champagne finish. These amps whithout doubt were imported from USA Leak agent and from Italian Leak agent and perhaps from other agents out of UK around 1960/1961. I can access to Italian magazine on 1961 issue. | [#13807] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user The SA-100 bias adjustment can be tricky. The amp was designed for 7189. But NOS EL84 should also work unless the bias set too high. And different 7189/EL84 probably have different sweet spots in term of bias. |
