| [#126] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 My WE44A has been singing in my place for sometime, still don't get it perfectly right, a WE71A choke has been added to better smooth the HV supply, the sound is still less coherent as the Shindo Petrus though the WE tone color is so tempting that I can live with its constraints. Yesterday, I checked the circuit again and found that there is an attenuiative network just after the volume pot. It consists of 3 WE18 type resistors, though the network is a must for very efficient spks, WE18 type resistors are not to be used for passing signal, it restricts dynamics and makes flimsy sound. I immediately have them removed, now the sound becomes normal, but the overall gain is higher than 10 times line amp. |

| [#137] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 I saw theses open 屏 prototype WE 205D in China yesterday.When I asked the commands of these tube.The gentleman said it can beat the WE 205D.It was a good news if it is ture.Let's wait and see. No matter it is true or not.I was so excite that mainland chines are very active in tube or Hi Fi industrial. I saw on magazine,The replica of WE 555 and 12A horns is finished. I'll waiting to listen to the We 555+12A set in the near future.  |

The WE44A is working fine in my place though the filament voltage for both the 102 and 205 are out a little bit, the tone color is always fascinating, I guess it will sound better with horn spks, I have a pair coming next Jan using TAD 4001 and 1601a with out-board X'over. |
