| [#127] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Last night, I was really tired. I want some sunny, delightful yet relaxing music, and I think of Dvorak again. Like Mozart, Dvorak was blessed with the ability to write beautiful melody. Fifth symphony was probably Dvorak's first masterpiece in which he transform from a good composer to become a great composer, in this work, which was known as his `Pastoral' symphony, he began to develop his unique sonic signature and his slavonic dancing rthythum. Janson and his Oslo Philharmonic playing was most lyrical and they enjoyed excellent engineering from EMI, although I would not forgot the spontaneous performance by Kerterz on Decca.  |

| [#132] What are you listening to? ( classical mus I follow up my Russian journey with Cello Works by Rachmaninov. Although Rachmaninov was known as a pianist, his cello work are equally attractive. His Cello sonata have gain much popularity after the advocate of Rostropvich, while his other shorter piece are no less appealing. Beautiful melody line on Cello suitable accompanied by skillful, atmospheric piano writing make this an essential disc for Cello music lover.  |

( classical mus Minpin, How would you compare Julia Fischer' Bach to say Perlman or Hiliary Hahn? kenkc2005hk, I always believe that Dvorak's 7&8 symphony was greater than his ninth, I did not have the chance to listen to Szell although I believe that he must me very good in this music. The version I have by the conductor of Cleveland after Szell: Dohnanyi, Kubelik, and Kerterz.  |
