| [#1386] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Red hot playing of Chopin by Argerich, far superior to Ashkenasy's version. Argerich have fire, excitment, romantic and inspiration while Ashkenasy only follow the score and play the notes.  |

| [#1387] What are you listening to? ( classical mus CKM, If you find Argerich exciting, you can also try her mentor Michelangeli playing similar pieces,also recorded by DGG. I think his playing is more dimensional. For Chopin, beside the standard Rubinstein, one can also explore Witold Malcuzinsky, another Polish pianist, who played with passion and aristocracy. |

( classical mus Triggered by recommendation from Radio 4 digged out my copy of Franz Schubert's piano sonata in a minor D784 played by Richter, a live recording from Tokyo in 1978. His Schubert is special,with slow expansive tempo that in lesser hands may sound dull and boring. He maintained structural integrity throughout the piece with ultra wide dynamics that was stunning and startling. |

Another pianist the often associate with the word `perfectionism' was his student Pollini, his playing of Chopin's Etude has stood the test of time.  |

To my surprise, I have no Richter's recording of Schubert's piano music apart from `Wanderer' Fantasy on EMI, probably I have look for it.  |

| [#1391] What are you listening to? ( classical mus chankaiming: Schubert is endlessly open to different interpretations. Kempff IS a master in this composer (my idol too). Other excellent interpreters that I like include Uchida, Brendel (you don;t like him I think) and certainly the totally individualistic Richter. There are 3 Richter Schubert CDs under the super-budget label REGIS (RRC 1021, 1049, 1115): http://www.regisrecords.co.uk/regisrecords/Alpha/Index.html SHUN CHEONG Mong Kok has these. But given your busy schedule, perhaps it's easier for you to buy them from overseas, like Bershire Records, which stock a hugh # of REGIS at US$3.99@, cheaper than Shun Cheong. Don't forget REGIS also has a lot of other titles by Richter (Rachmaninov, Schumann, Beethoven). All are fantastic. These were previously on colelctible full-price OLYMPIA. The BRILLIANT CLASSICS Richter box has some Schubert too: http://www.classicstoday.com/review.asp?ReviewNum=8170 There are TONS of his recordings. In the "Any classical fans" thread, quite a while ago trollope had written on a lot of other Richter CDs.  |

Struass did not write any piano concerto, but only tone poem with piano. These three pieces of music are quite boring with no special prominent feature nor any melody which are memorable, only act as a filler in the excellent set of complete orchestral work of Richard Strauss.  |

Poulenc's music have a modern rthythum and heart warming melody. His music always reminded me of Prokofiev, a french Prokofiev. His piano concerto deserve greater attention. This recording by Erato was very trueful.  |
