| [#14130] Leak Club ~ Pioneer Apart from the Pioneer small wine bucket, I had chance to audition a pair of RCA amplifier at EICO Garden. The RCA sounded nice with Richard's Tannoy. I asked Richard to try to use it to drive LS3/5A. To my ears, it sound quite nice especially for the 二胡 :-)  |

| [#14132] Leak Club ~ RCA His Master's Voice The History of Nipper and His Master's Voice Nipper and His Master's Voice - What is the story? Nipper the dog was born in Bristol in Gloucester, England in 1884 and so named because of his tendency to nip the backs of visitors' legs. When his first master Mark Barraud died destitute in Bristol in 1887, Nipper was taken to Liverpool in Lancashire, England by Mark's younger brother Francis, a painter. In Liverpool Nipper discovered the Phonograph, a cylinder recording and playing machine and Francis Barraud "often noticed how puzzled he was to make out where the voice came from". This scene must have been indelibly printed in Barraud's brain, for it was three years after Nipper died that he committed it to canvas. Nipper died in September 1895, having returned from Liverpool to live with Mark Barraud's widow in Kingston-upon-Thames in Surrey, England. Though not a thoroughbred, Nipper had plenty of bull terrier in him; he never hesitated to take on another dog in a fight, loved chasing rats and had a fondness for the pheasants in Richmond Park! | [#14134] Leak Club ~ Busy Day Jo Ki is a famous LS3/5A collecter in Malaysia. He came to Hong Kong yesterday for business. Last night Jo and I spent several hours at Richard's workshop after dinner. He came to my place this morning at 0800 hours. After three hours audition, I asked him to give me any comment. Jo was so kind he did not leave me any negative comment. I started to play with Pilot 232 (Gold version), Dynaco Stereo 35, Stereo 20, Stereo 50, TL/10, RCA LMI-32216 and the latest TL/25A. The pre amplifiers were first Fisher 50C and 400CX-2. He told me that he was mostly impressed by the RCA and TL/25A and he rated 50C far higher than the 400CX-2. Dennis and Patrick came at around 1200 hours. I grabbed the chance to show as many as my toys to them. What's a consistent, they liked RCA and TL/25A. I have to say sorry to Richard to keep him wait. And I think he will understand that once I start the POISON procedure, I just can't help myself to finish the whole procedure :-) Dennis drove us and picked up Richard who brought along the 27M and a Stereo 20 to Dennis's luxary premises where we met jcml, JL. Dennis has face. This should be the first time Richard allowed the 27M to take part in a gathering. I hope I have the same thick face in the future :-) Today is a wonderful day. Nice chat nice sound made a nice gathering before the arrival of the year of PIG :-) Thanks to Dennis's hospitality :-) |

The transparancy of RCA teased me and reminded me of Feiekeung's OTL Graaf, one of my favourites and best ever tube amp I've heard. I still couldn't choose between your ST35 and Pilot. They are really sweet when playing vocal but frankly not as all round as your Leak amps with full bodied presentation. Well, I think I have changed my mind now thinking about your big RCA in my sweet dreams. We knew it was our real honour having you exercising your body in the leak jungle replacing the amp and cables for us. Please keep in touch for the upcoming EL34 match. Happy New Year |

I know you have something coming up soon. ----------------------------------------------------- although the main character of the 27M is transparency, we realise that there are different shades of transparency:-). different folks have different preferences. therefore we build in some tuning capabilities into the 27M. 27M have 4 different sonic characters. these come from the combination of different types of rectification and output caps. 27M can take either SS or tube rectifiers and have 2 sets of outputs using different caps. didn't richard demo you the differences among these? coming back to your question. 27M has reasonably low output impedance. it should be able to drive most amps out there being it SS or tube. 2) Will it match well with Graat OTL and QUAD II? -------------------------------------------------- i built my first OTL some 10 years ago using i think the same topology of the Graat OTL. i must say it has the most perfect square wave response of a tube power amp i've ever seen. but somehow i find the sound a bit dry. but i suppose if i build one now, it might be different. however being a britsh trained engineer, i'm too conservative and couldn't probably sleep very well knowing that the OTL amp might take out my speaker anytime.:-) Ah! QUAD II. i'm afraid i don't really fancy pp amps of that period. oops don't hit me. all those leakers, eicoers etc out there. |

| [#14147] Leak Club ~ Busy Day Dear doctor or any expert like cp, Sifu Richard or timetube etc. I have my ESL speaker installed with the One Thing Audio's protection circuit to prevent overdriving. Would the OTL be able to damage my ESL when gone mad? Secondly, learning the doctor have left some positive feedback to OTL, will you believe and recommend OTL to me when partnering with my ESL with protection circuit? My concern is that the ESL varies from 30 ohm in low freqency range down to 0.8 ohm in mid and treble range. I am posting this question in ESL thread as well as this friendly one, in case doctors don't read the ESL thread. Hope you don't mind. |
