[#14198] Leak Club ~ 5881 http://www.thetubestore.com/6l65881types.html Facts you should know before purchasing: 25 Watt tubes such as 6L6, 6L6GB, 6L6WGB, and 5881 are rated for plate voltage up to 400 volts. 30 Watt tubes such as 6L6GC, 6L6WXT+, and 6L6WGC are rated for plate voltage up to 500 volts. The KT66 tube type is a 25 Watt tube rated for plate voltage up to 500 volts. ---------------------------------------------- Then I think KT66 can be used in the Fisher 70A :-)

[#14200] Leak Club ~ 5881 http://home.mira.net/~kiewavly/TL25Plus.html The Leak TL/25 is a very desirable power amplifier. The 25Watt power output is such that it is usable with modern speakers of today, but the design does not push power output to the limit - often higher powered valve amps seem to sacrifice sonic performance. Surprisingly, the TL/25 Plus is on the same sized chassis as the TL/12 Plus (only the height differs for the taller power transformer on the TL/25 Plus). In reality, these amps can deliver around 32 watts, hence the "Plus" designation in the name of this series of mono amplifiers from Leak. Leak state that the output stage can use KT66, EL34, or 5881 valves, as the circuit uses "automatic" cathode biasing. Of course the sonic performance will vary with valve types. As with all other Leak audio amplifiers wiring was of a very high standard, as was overall construction and finish. The amplifiers on this page are finished in gold-bronze stove enamel, which remains in great condition after 40 years of use. Also shown here is the under chassis view of the TL/25 Plus, which displays the overall wiring and construction. Many components show signs of wear and tear, and it is usual practice to replace all the signal capacitors, and possibly some resistors. Usually wire wound types such as those used on the cathodes of the EL34's in this amp survive well over the years and do not shift in value, although they may appear "tired" from heat (see the green resistors on the right side of the photo). ------------------------------------------- Leak TL/25+, Stereo 50 & Stereo 60' the output stage can use KT66, EL34, or 5881 valves, as the circuit uses "automatic" cathode biasing. Of course the sonic performance will vary with valve types. I never taste 5881 with my Leak Toys before. I think I should open another line for 5881 tubes :-) ![]()

[#14202] Leak Club ~ 5881 & KT66 http://www.vacuumtubes.com/6l6.html 5881/6L6WGB This tube was first developed by TungSol for the US Military. They are in short stubby glass envelopes. There is no difference between the 6L6WGB or the 5881, they are the same tube. The 5881 has a maximum plate rating of 360 volts at 23 watts and a maximum screen rating of 270 volts at 3 watts. DO NOT USE IN AMPS CALLING FOR 6L6GC's. They will likely melt down and damage your amp. -------------------------------------- Type KT-66/7581 Tubes The 7581/A tube is an industrial strength version of the 6L6GC which is also said to be the American equivalent to the British KT-66. The ratings 7581 are roughly the same as the 6L6GC while the 7581A has higher ratings. The 7581 has a plate voltage rating of 500 V--35 watts (5 watts more than the 6L6GC) and a screen rating of 450V--5 watts. The Philips/ECG 6BG6 that we have were made from Philips/ECG (Sylvania) 7581A parts and have the same ratings as the 7581A.
