| [#1491] Western Electric amps and associated equip Mr Ng,Mr Wu is in the process of modifying a coupling cap for the 131A,originally its a Czech made cap called Tesla, 0.25uf 400V, we tested this cap in the clone WE106C,we compared it with a WE oil cap,and the result is unbeliavable as we all know WE oil caps are among the best of coupling caps.Since the Tesla is a paper cap surrounded by wax in a sealed metal container, Mr Wu is confident to modify the cap to other values without altering the original cap material,I, personally hate to use coupling caps if there is a way not to using it, but I have high hopes on this, will let you know the result later. |

| [#1494] Western Electric amps and associated equip Ricky,for what you need the 21CB,have you ever heard the sound of it as a coupling cap, though it can be used for power rectification,cathode bypass and in spk crossover. In my limited experence with caps,its by far the best cap ever made in hi-fi history in terms of sound quality, but not construction quality. WE's later version of 21CB is 137A, 139A... and 141X series,they are also leaky. | [#1499] Western Electric amps and associated equip Peter, It is hard to believe someone can modify a metal can paper coupling cap. The only possible way is to open the wax metal cap and un-wrap some of the paper/metal film to the required value, but how many turns to remove, this is micro-engineering. I believe Mr Wu will use the most generic way - trial and error. Good luck and look forward to the end product. |
