Despite the Apt Holman being a well acclaimed preamp in the late seventies, I would have thought that it will be humiliating enough to have a hailed-by-everybody valve preamp even come to a draw with an ss preamp. I was wrong. I must have been too arrogant with the V410 power amp winning in an avalanche last time. So we're tie in our preamp / power amp battles. My next challenge, when I come again, will be on your speakers. And my weapon will be this. I bought this TC-50 purely based on the following words from Stereophile : "They rival the Quad ESL-63 at providing low-level detail and harmonic delicacy from low, to moderately high listening levels. The imaging is outstanding (after several days of speaker adjustment to get it just right), and violin and woodwinds are exceptionally natural.” "Low-level delineation of imaging and soundstage is superior to that of the Dayton Wrights and far superior to that of the LS3/Sas.” "Spica TC-50 are not perfect by any means, but their choice of tradeoffs is notably superior to those made for the LS3/5a, or for any of the other small British speakers I have heard in recent years.” So start working up your Spendor and get ready.  |

At the time I was much crazy over LS3/5A which burned my pockets and ocuppied all the space of my sitting room. I was told that TC50 is renown for the vocal reproduction. I have several famous tube preamplifiers at my home and none of them came close to my Fisher 50C to my ears which all of you should know that they are not golden :-) |
