| [#15051] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Yes Gingers, they are. The SP-8 was crowned the Queen of pre-amps when she made her first public appearance. Well, it is still a great tube pre-amp, takes some beating provided you don’t place her next to the current cream of the crop. The Marantz 500 was and probably is the king of solid state power houses, a killer that is able to do everything so well all at the same time. The only problem with this giant of an amp (weighing more than a hundred lbs back in the 70’s) is its tendency of self destruction, with absolutely no prior warning. |

| [#15054] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user I guess nothing more needs to be said regarding the fiery debate of the time since what we have now left is the ubiquitous 15 ohm 3/5a _________________________________________________________________ limage, I seem to have a very faint memory of the event, it must be long time ago. I think at that time the Artisan actually scored the highest but it is now nowhere to be seen. I played around with the Artisan for a short time but it was too "hifi” for me. Audio brand names fade away for various reasons, not necessarily due to their performances. I still remember some of the better equipment which once had had a place in my audio room, such as the Apt Holman, Audionics CC-2, Bedini 25/25, DCM Time Window, Dahlquish DQ-10 and more recently, must be already 10 years ago, the Genesis V. They are all, in my opinion, excellent equipment but they never made it to the big market. I let go of them to keep chasing for the newer,“better”and more famous equipment; and was led along by the“mega-trend”. There are actually very few people in this world who are as faithful to their equipment as you are. You are truly high fidelity in its literal sense. I feel so happy for Margaret. But we are the people who "contribute”to the economy and keep financing the audio industry hoping that they will ever churn out better equipment. As I come to this age, I stop looking forward and start looking back trying to collect some of my past memories. Piece by piece I try to get hold of the equipment that I once cherished and deserted. I just dug out from the darkest corner of my house the 2 ss preamps, Apt Holman and Hafler. The Hafler is really crap but I'm surprised how good the Apt Holman is compared with some modern equipment, despite it is not as sweet as the Fisher 50C. So may be now we would have a different view on the Spica, knowing that it is no longer with us and what's left is getting less and less, just like Rostropovich's repertories. You are most welcome to join the party and see whether you will now have a“second”opinion. |

Though it is a pity to see original virgin soldering is gone. I guess this pair should be the first pair 8 0hm 12.1 I know in Hong Kong :-)  |
