[#1506] What are you listening to? ![]()

[#1507] What are you listening to? ![]()

[#1511] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Recently my house-removal allowed me to discover a LP of Richter (but my dad's turntable could not play at all) playing Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No.2,a live recording of Salzburg in 1971 issued by Europadisc and Suraphon jointly but I could not find neither CD nor LP relevant information in Trovar.com given by doctorjohn, Trollope, have you ever heard of this version > No, I know not the existence of a third commercially available recording of Richter's Rach2 besides the Sanderling (Melodiya etc) and the Wislocki (DG etc). If you visit trovar.com again, you will see a note there warning us that Melodiya has issued on LP more than once Richter's Rach2 actually not played by him. Eurodisc used to be the Western arm of Melodiya. Hence ...

[#1515] What are you listening to? ( classical mus I have the old version of Beethoven violin sonata and Mozart violin sonata palyed by Haskil/ Grumiaux, I must say that this duo was one of the most intimate, well balanced violin piano duo in the history, Haskil was a master of Beethoven and Mozart at that time already, Grumiaux however was only a young violinist who was unknown to the musical world. But their collaboration bring out the strength of their partner, their Beethoven was far superior to Oistrakh and Oborin's version, even though their recording was in mono, you hardly notice it. Now Beethoven violin sonata is on Brilliant classic for a bargain price. ![]()

It's 1958 late mono recording, not affect the listening experience too much.. |

[#1517] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Judging from my 3 CD set issued more than tens years ago, it is not a audiophil item, the violin are right in you face and piano at far back, but the artistry of this set make me come back to it again and again even though I have other set by Oistrakh and one disc by Perlman/ Ashkenazy.

[#1518] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Among the 3 complete sets I often listen to: Oistrakh / Oborin The 1962 recording ages well, though the approach to keep the two instruments audibly apart takes a bit of getting used to. Perlman / Ashkenazy I bought this complete set (4 CDs) in the Decca "Ovation" series (421 452) released in 1988 many years ago. It's a treasurable set, one which I often return to. Very fresh, lovely style. Grumiaux / Haskil A reading of great warmth and humanity.

[#1520] What are you listening to? ( classical mus I don't have the complete set of Perlman/ Ashkenazy, but only their `Spring' and `Kreutzer' sonata, my view may be biased. I found their playing to be very good but I found Ashkenazy too heavy handed occasionally in `Spring' sonata , Haskil was lighter more Mozartian. Perlman/ Ashkenazy was really excellant in `Kreutzer' sonata and their `heart to sleeve' stormy approach suit the music well, their version are the best out of the three version I have. ![]()
