[#142] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 Peter hing, thank you for lending me the WE 618B.If time allowed I will come on Monday too. Let's tea together with Mr. Woo. I am sure the TAD 4001 and 1601a are high quality product. The enclosure are very well made too.The TAD speaker system still don't very attractive to me.It's a bit muffle and soft and not crunchy and transparence enough. It seems like the enclosure is over damping. This kind of monitor need to play in deafening loud level.A heavy damping is a must. I owned 4001 and 1601a too.I once try to put the 1601a into a less damping and horn loaded bass enclosure with the 4001+wood horn free standing on the top.X'over is out-board too.The open and lively sound was back.Music come out much at ease. The transparence was there. I learn a lesson from that. ![]()

[#144] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 penndan. go to this link and see some other designs using TAD drivers' www.cessaro-horn-acoustics.com, I have ordered the Alpha 1 with the out-board X'over using silver-mica as capacitor material, the cap size is about the size of a 1 Kilo Coke, can't wait to see real think.

[#154] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 Penndan hing, I don't have much experience with horn spks, what do you think the power requirements for the Cessaro Alpha 1, or is it very dependent on the X'over design. In other cases such as the TAD2402/2502 and Hidley using the same TAD drivers, what is the optimum power output for driving these spk systems.

[#155] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 hi peter, I know U had Kondo tube amp. matthew tai gor was use 300B PP. It was good for reyaudio but looks if your listening area large than matthew, U need a large power amp. probably Gakuoh II will be one of your cup of tea. because it was a SE amp & large power. Or U can considerate got a tube amp use KT1610 in japan. ![]()

[#156] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 Peter has the same amp as I do (well, he has more amps than I do :-) The Shindo 300B push-pull also drives my Rey OK, but not as good as the Kondo. However, the 4001/1601 series of drivers are designed to handle big power, like 500W continuous. So my guess is that, they like at much *quality* power as one get....

[#157] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 hi matthewc tai gor, do U try this Gakuon II 211 PSE ? Last time I heard U Use Kondo 300B PP was good to push in your home area. But such your comment. 4001 +, 1601 series was design to handle for large power. so why I suggest peter hing considerate this Gakuon II. I thought more power will better.

[#158] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 peter hing, tubediyer and matthewc hing is right. The TAD is build for big power. It might be a little bit better if your 1601a is front loaded horns design or you are using very big enclosure..A 300B pushpull can handle it quite well. Horn drivers are very sensitive stuff.Keep the network for the drivers as direct and simple as possible.Too many connecting points, big uf and high power caps and low quality inductors,L-pad or resisters can do much harms to the sound quality. Use LPs as source is much better too.

[#159] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 Peter is high-hand and he also heard my setup, though in a much sub-optimal state back then. Ditching the CD player and changin the turntable/arm/cartridge made huge differences. Much more live/dynamic now. Old sources were sleepy..... Anyway. Never tried the Gakuoh-II, though would really love to try. My 211 single can also drive my Rey ok, but the 1601b really, really need big power to come alive. I tried using Dartzeel (not even that much power) amp for a couple days... basically my room can't handle the bass.... I think my room can handle 28-30Hz.... but the Rey goes to 24. So it goes both ways. The 1601 series can go really low, but need power. If you don't have much power to dispense with, that that may be better for smaller room.... and by smaller I mean < 400-450 sq feet....

[#160] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 Hi Thomas & Matthew dai gor, I auditioned Gakuoh a few times and I don't find it 'sounding' quite powerful. The first setup was a pair driving full set Living Voice horn with bass horn system. It sounds very good when playing jazz music but sounds too mellow when playing Argerich Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto #1. Other times they were used to mate with multiway speakers like Wilson & Kharma during hifi show and result were horrible.
