[#1627] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Hello george1997, In hifi show, I find the kiosk playing violin concerto (forget which composer) LP with Kondo tube amp sounds good. For your information, my Thorens TD321 turntable also did not work after idle for 17+ years. Once I was very happy to resume it with a DC power supply of PC notebook. As the Thorens power supply marked AC output, someone bought me a AC power supply from China at $20 later on. I know nothing about electronic, just wonder why the DC current for notebook can make it work.

[#1630] What are you listening to? ( classical mus 邊個邊個, Acually Debussy was my long time favorite, some may consider it as background music but I always found it atmospheric and comfortable. I strongly recommend the complete orchestral work Duo disc on Philips played by Haitink, the resording are excellent too. Let me prepare the mood for Debussy's msuic by some painting of Monet. Claude Monet, "Houses of Parliament, Effect of Sunlight in the Fog" ![]()

[#1635] What are you listening to? ( classical mus CKM Thank for your sharing about Monte's masterpieces with us, I am listening to some French Flute/harp duo (Faure's Sicilienne) in the same impressionist mood. What a great thread this is! Erictang Thanks for your advice! I will try it later on but trying another turntable borrowed from my friend. Million thanks for your hot tips! KH33 Please share more your classical knowledge and vinyl collection with us, your recommended Liszt's Faust Symphony is immaculate, thank for your conscientious suggestion! George 1977 ![]()

[#1637] What are you listening to? ( classical mus After all the discussion on Liszt, I bought on sale this Vasary CD of Liszt. Tamas Vasary is one of trollope's favorites too, if I recall correctly. His DG recordings are all pristine. This issue though has some mono items (nice sound though) that are collector's items. When played this fastidiously, Liszt is great. I also like the Liszt of Wilhelm Kempff. ![]()

[#1638] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Another version of Liszt Dante Symphony, besides that of Sinopoli--Kojian conducting the Utah Symphony Orchestra, issued by Adante Records. As with another famous Kojian recording,Symphony Fantastique,it is a sonic blockbuster, with ultra wide dynamics and exciting playing that is sometimes scary.

[#1639] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Doctorjohn: Morning! So coincident that I am listening to Argerich's heartfelt and beautiful playing of Chopin's Piano Sonata No.2 in LP, feeling her charisma, color and wilful touch. Pogorelich's account of chopin piano sonata no.2 is also an unorthodox reading with some agogic mannerisms!! George1977 ![]()

[#1640] What are you listening to? ( classical mus listened to this CD last night for his unorthodox and unusual reading of Chopin Piano Sonata No.2, an account with temperament and fire throughout his playing. The coupling Ravel's Gaspard is out of the ordinary, his command of color and nuance is immaculate to portray ravel's poetic vision! Recording balance is a bit close yet sound remarkable ! Highly Recommended! ![]()

[#1642] What are you listening to? ( classical mus I am a fan of Argerich too. Like Pogorelich, she's also even better live. I find Argerich's Lugano Festival chamber music series excellent, and a bargain, though not everything was played by her.

[#1643] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Listen this new vinyl whole morning before playing my dad's collection. If Dennis Brain's mono account with Karajan (EMI) playing Mozart's Horn Concerto is widely regarded as a top choice, then Peyer and Maag's collaboration is pretty close to their achievement by its virtuosity, wit and vigor, the orchestra provides crisp, polished and elegant accompaniments to make a perfectly scaled backcloth for full-timbred solo playing with natural high spirits, intimacy and warmth. For Peyer's spontaneous and keen immagination in his playing of mozart's clarinet concerto, Maag gave us a refined, vigorous yet elegant accompaniments with fastish speed, freshness and unmannered style in all three movements! This LP is my first buy, a definite version for both concertos!
