Somehow I have an issue with the re-issue Decca's. Heard this LP many times in hifi people's homes and usually a little thick too. Rather thick sound (maybe my system though). But there are other excellent clarinet concerto from the classical era as well. I have brought a set of romantic clarinet concerto from Brilliant classics played by Emma Johnson, featuring clarinet concerto by Weber Spohr, Krommer etc. Strongly recommended to clarinet music fans.  |

My first time to play LP last night after borrowing my classmate's cheap cheap turntable (KENWOOD)[that Thorens turntable is unsavable now!], such an unusual experience replaying LP at home(first time ever), so natural and vivid sound which justify the Kenneth Wilkinson's well-known analogue production, my dad told me how famous the "T-shaped" microphone set-up, now feel as if "you are there!" in the recording session! so miraculous ! So envious! No comment I can give about his EMI recording coz I never heard, I however rate Milstein's late DG version as a distinguished performance with a sense of exhilaration and freshness which is persuasive, though a little bit reserve compare to his earlier mono account (accompanied by Bruno Walter). You have the CD and LP, hercules, how do you rate it? |

The Perlman/Askenazy Beethoven violin sonatas had similar status with Oistrakh/Oborin of the sixties and Graumiaux/Haskil of the fifties. Another version I would like to collect is Francescatti/Casadesus, I only had one LP, but what a lovely and elegant playing from both masters. |

| [#1664] What are you listening to? ( classical mus KH33 Well I have discarded my dad's THORENS even though I have tried my best to rejuvenate the malfunctioned but failed ultimately. Then my classmate lent me his cheap turntable for replacement, sound is gorgeous but not as superb as those meticulously refined Hi-End turntable, but the analogue made me addictive and indulgent these two days. I have underestimated the analogue sound indeed! Still I have a lot to learn from your guys who are more senior and experienced in respect of turntable/tonearm/ catridge adjustment. I feel interesting at all of your recommendation, sony BMG did release a reissue CD of Casadesus / Francescatti duo for their beethoven's Violin sontas (No 5 & 9) this March, really eager to listen their French style treatment for these masterpieces. ( classical mus Listening to Bruckner's Symphony No.7 conducted by Takashi Asahina (朝比奈隆)who led the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, this highly accomplished version was recommended by my mentor who is a brucknerian freak, so monumental, breathtaking and granduer with a moving adagio and splendid tempo, an outstanding performance though not at the same league as Karajan, Celibadache and Wand (both my all-time favourite!)! You can hardly how well this japanese maestro has a insight as if he inherit from a german & Austro school!  |
