| [#16770] ETSC & ETRC & ESAC Members (44) Chi, Have you compared the performances of Canon EF lenses: (1) 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM, (2) 70-200mm F2.8L USM, and (3) 70-200mm F4L USM? They each has a vastly different price tag. Are their performance proportionally varied? And.. have you tried the extenders 1.4x II and 2x II? Do they worth the money?  |

| [#16787] ETSC & ETRC & ESAC Members (44) Hi Richard, I did use them in the past. They were all very good lenses:sharp, contrasty images and lovely colours. They don't make 70-200mm F2.8L USM, and 70-200mm F4L USM anymore. They are all replaced with IS version now. With my experience in the past, the sharpest one being the 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM. It also helps with the IS and I don't know if they have integrated the Mark II or III of IS and USM. I had the F4 non-IS for a while but it had to return to the shop as my copy had a back focus problem. It was reknown problem with this lens if you could find copy it will be extremely useful. It's sharp, compact and cheaper. If not for the focus issue it will be my permanent lens. Like accphoto suggest I will try the 70-200 F4 IS as it's very good and the good performance of high ISO of the 5DII will compensate enough for 1 stop. The Extenders are both good but I'll go for 1.4X which gives you better options for other lenses as well. The Canon DSLR will only accept the max lens value of F5.6 for non professional and F8 for 1D series. I have to go for work and I'll talk to you from work. Chi |
