There's a slip of paper included in the box that reads: WARNING ABOUT THE FOUR THIRDS MOUNT LENSES • When selecting Auto Focus photography, it is necessary to set both the focus mode switch on the lens barrel to AF and your camera's focus mode switch to AF (S or C). If you wish to take picture in Manual Focus, please follow the same proceedure and set the focus mode switch on both lens and camera to MF. • The function of AF-S mode with MF override is not available. And that's it - letter for letter, and there's no other mention of the four thirds mount in any of the instructions. I'd love to use the manual focus ring to break a focusing impasse, getting close enough to give the camera some contrast to lock on to, and it does work. What you suggest is possible, and I've done it from time to time. But my subjective impression is that the lens has been easier to get along with since I've stopped doing it, and since I don't know the reasoning behind Sigma's warning, I can't really say if there might be short of long-term consequences from it. |
