| [#1726] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Listening can be infectious. Picked up an EMI recording of Satie's piano works performed by Aldo Ciccolini in the sixties. He was known as the Satie specialist at that time. I feel a similarity of his playing to that of Michelangeli. He is in the mood and atmosphere of Satie's music,special, eerie, grotesque and imaginative. Also treated me with another kind of music, Vivaldi's Sonata for cello and harpsichord,played by Antonio Janigro and Lacroix. Relax and serene,their playing had a soothing and calming effect. |

| [#1729] What are you listening to? ( classical mus After the dreamy, romantic noctune by John Field, I listened to the Prokofiev's `War' Piano sonata No 6-8 played by Richter. As it name suggested, the three sonata was full of struggle, disssonance and disharmony, it was not until the slow movement of the eighth sonata we can have a moment of peace. As a personal friend of Prokofiev, Richter playing was authoritative, recording sound was acceptable.  |

( classical mus Listening to Kubelik's Handel Water Music & Music of the Fireworks, though at the same league as Szell's account (Decca) and Pinnock period instrument rendition, Music is imbued with nostalgic feeling with excellent string and dramatic antiphonal contrast between horns and trumpets, BPO's ensembleship is gentle with well-chosen speed. The recording itself is beautifully balanced, full and clear. George1977  |

| [#1743] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Listened to Schnittke's Concerto Grossi No.1 played by Gidon Kremer before sleeping! The psychedelic amalgmation of baroque and modern produces an aurally exciting and spiritually disturbing works (as if hearing berg and vivaldi in the drastic manner) Kremer and his friends deliver me an intimate and vivid live performance. Another great piece Quasi una sonata was a breakthrough for violin and piano for Schnittke, Kremer's immagination plays the pieces riot without discipline and again supplies all the agonized intensity , an excellent introduction for me to this Russian composer! Highly recommended!  |

| [#1744] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Last night, three Dvorak symphony in a roll, it was his fourth, fifth and sixth symphony. Dvorak's music was always delightful, energetic and sunny. Once I put the disc into the CD player, I cannot stopped but finish all three as the fifth symphony was splitted on two disc. Expertly played by Kertesz/LSO and recorded by Wilkinson in Kingsway hall.  |
