( classical mus Recently bought several albums of Ian Bostridge who is a talented tenor singing those poetic Schubert Lieders, after hearing his new album of Handel’s Arias (particularly like his spontaneous singing of “Where re you walk” of Xerxes), just bought his previous album of Britten’s vocal works during lunchtime : Serenade and other folk song arrangement. He sounds fresh and eager to deliver his interpretation in response to music and text, yet he reserves a bit in the lower register in the Keats Sonnet “Oh Soft embalmer of the still night” . His affinity with Britten’s music and his virtue of verbal illumination are amply demonstrated here, his reading in the folk song settings about Oliver Cromwell is pertinent, horn and orchestral playing conducted by Rattle are first rate and flourishing, sonic quality is full and lush!!  |

( classical music) Did a brief A/B blind test of the 1962 Oistrakh + Oborin "Kreutzer" Sonata in: (a) first CD version (b) 2001 4-CD boxset I think I can hear greater transpancy in (a), by a very small margin. But in fact, in both of these editions, the recording is thoroughly acceptable, with good presence, and hardly showing their age.  |

( classical music) Plainly I've delayed further than common courtesy would allow in telling friends here whether I am joining the inaugural get-together this Sunday, in the hope that things would if only for once take a favourable turn that gives me the luxury of time to be present. It now, however, becomes clear that I must spend my Sunday noontime, in observance of the hospital's visiting hours, with an old friend and teacher in preference to new acquaintances. I have so little daytime of my own these days, still it means a lot to me to be with someone whom I have the warmest affection and most loving respect, someone who is visibly dying before my eyes. Meeting a table of classically-musical new friends is a rare sensation. It is one of those occasions when we are able to make sense of our experience by talking it over. I cannot tell you all how I wish there would be a second round of this gathering before long, when my life will not be in such a complete disarray. But I live in hope. Meanwhile, I wish the Sunday event an immense success.  |

Meeting you face-to-face is also my desire and I do hope that you can ultimately sign up for our first gathering. Yet I dun want you to be regretful if you lost a chance to accompany someone whom you adore and respect most. Your photo about cancer center recalls my mom who has been dead 7 years ago because of rectum cancer, an unspeakable pain still haunts me even I have personally overcome the utter grief, but I have no remorse at all because I could take care her until her twilight... The food was quite reasonably good, and the company lovely. It was a great pleasure meeting George1977, 邊個邊個, erictang and trazom. Thank you all. And thank you CKM for organizing. limage remarked that all of you classical fellows are quite 斯文, but left me in a separate "unpredictable" category due to my "darkside" (in hifi only, due to the lagre # of 混吉佬) :-) I wish this activity will continue, with periodical meetings. When we meet, we should demonstrate our software instead of hifi. Agree? Finally, great thanks to George for the 2 LPs. I was in a hurry and thought it was Vasary's Chopin #2. It is Liszt #2 instead, and it's a great reading. I have it but your copy is superior. I believe it's oop. Million thanks again. |

Agreed with what doctorjohn said, the exchange of software intelligence is the top priority, yet I still have a lot to learn from Limage, DJ, KH33 and others' lesson in respect of Hi-Fi and Music!!! I owe you all in the past nine months coz I just read your guys discussion without active contribution! I won't post as much article as before because of your guys saying "too many at the same time", no lah! just because I will have an audit trip in mainland for a week!
