| [#1847] Rattle conducts Mahler's No.2 Symphony Mahler: Symphony No.2 Arleen Auger (soprano) Janet Baker (mezzo-soprano) CBSO Chorus City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Simon Rattle EMI Classics 0094634579421 (2 CD) 這CD是拉圖的成名作，被奉為發燒天碟，拉圖當時只得三十一歲。以前一直都聽不完這碟，相信是我中Klemperer的 Mahler Symphony No.2 毒太深，接受不了不同的演繹，所以大家盡量不要重覆聽一個版本。直接購買「終極版本」，可以節省時間及金錢，但代價是會給那個版本徹底洗腦。 我放進CD機的，不是這個封面的GROC版本，是大約2002的英國再版，音質可能與這個新版有異，請留意。一般發燒友介紹這張碟，多數讚賞爆棚位置。這點我不否認，但我聽這碟時，覺得它最獨特之處，是細節奏得（或錄得）很舒服。與拉圖與柏林愛樂CD的「搶耳刮耳」不同，這些細節的聲響很好聽，卻不喧賓奪主。這張CD，我聽得十分輕鬆。拉圖的詮釋處理偏愛重現樂譜中被忽視的細節, 速度無Klemperer般的慢速及莊嚴沈重, 但是主要的結構及旋律仍舊清澈透明, 聽來猶如連續不斷的高質HDTV逐格重播, 效果刺激而不失音樂感! 伯明罕市音樂大廳的優質堂音及生猛的現場感被活靈活現記錄下來, 一句到尾: 好得! 現在我沒有這CD的最靚聲 24 Bit ART 版本，沒頂級音響器材(我用好cheap的Quad 34 +405-2 推KEF103/4)，請原諒我的妄語：我認為現時的數碼科技，錄這曲的爆棚效果，已超越釵hLPCD及XRCD (不過是一張徹底用盡16 bit Red Book規格的CD)。今時今日，你不應因Hi-Fi或爆棚，來聽這隻碟，除非你有最好聲的版本或黑膠唱片，就另作別論。  |

| [#1850] What are you listening to? hercules, Pletnev's Carnige hall recital was very exciting indeed, he have a very good piano tone, and he like to use rubato, he approach work well in Chopin's Scherzo. However, I still think that Beethoven were better played in a disciplined and classical manner, I still honour Pollini's version as the best. In the encore, Pletnev simply brought the house down with few virtuosity piece, I think it is the highlight of the whole recital.  |

| [#1851] What are you listening to? Beethoven in the disc is not the best, but really excited with Chopin. But last time Live in Hong Kong, his Beethoven Sonata was moving and poetic!! In the Encore Disc,I'm enjoyed the Ialamey, as well as Arrau's in Great Pianist 2CD. I bought this CD at the time of Steinway Promotion, only $68 for 2 CD... can't find a better bargain around. |

| [#1852] What are you listening to? Last night, I finally started my survey on Beethoven complete set, thanks 邊個邊個for lending me this great set. I focused on disc one ( symphony No 1& 3 played by BPO and Cluytens) last night and the performance really took me by surprise. Symphony No.1 was Beethoven pioneer work, Cluytens stress on Haydnese charm and lightness, the tempo are natural, music flow fluently, and most importantly the music was infused with energy. But I am afraid greatness was yet to come, in symphony no.3, Cluytens playing was energetic and stiring, the second movement (Funeral March) have real tension and weight, the final movement once again played with life and energy. I have not heard of the name Cluytens before, but this level of performance put those lean and thin `historical informed performance' into shade.  |

| [#1859] What are you listening to? Amongst all these, Norrington and Zinman are the more interesting. They are both period performances with Beethoven's ultra fast tempi rather than the conventional romantic style. Norrington uses period instruments like Gardiner, Harnoncourt etc. and Zinman uses modern instruments but with the Del Mar corrected Barenreiter scores. Out of the many period performances now becoming popular, even Beethoven's piano sonatas are played on pianoforte, these 2, i.e. Norrington and Zinman, are the best in my opinion. |

| [#1860] What are you listening to? george1977 Last nite listen to your gift LP Wagner Orchestral excepts from the Ring with Antal Dorati leading the Washington National Symphony Orchestra. Dorati was not famous for his Wagner, but here he gave a dramatic and exciting account with high tension. The effect was also helped by the excellent recording from DECCA. Though not the first pressing, the sound was detailed and transparent, the highs were crystal clear and the bass was whooping and stupendous in the usual DECCA fashion. I'm afraid you may regret in giving away this gem after hearing it in my LP system. A big thanks. Also listened to the recently acquired recording Du Pre/Barenboim playing Chopin Cello sonata, one of his last great works. I always like Du Pre, though she may not has the best of technique, her tone is intoxicating and she always played with total commitment. Together with her husband her Chopin is sensitive,fragile and sentimental. |

| [#1864] What are you listening to? 布拉姆斯三首鋼琴四重奏中，最常聽到是第一首，Schoenberg還編了管弦版。為甚麼另外兩首那麼少人演奏或錄音呢？其實它們都有難忘片段：第二的慢板是很甜的搖籃曲；第三的諧謔曲刺激非常，有如第一的終曲。而第三的行板有動人的大提琴獨奏，就像第二鋼琴協奏曲般。本來我只對第一感興趣，聽完這CD後，發覺另外兩首更堪玩味，可以說是給大人聽的室樂。 這堛瑪琴錄得很突出，絲毫不像為另外三人伴奏，反而像與三人對撼。再三細想這才像樣，第一及第二都是早期作品，布拉姆斯的早期鋼琴曲，都是和弦厚重的。剛剛提出的問題：第二及第三有甚麼比不上第一呢？就是終曲。第一的終曲採吉卜賽曲風，一奏完多數會有哄堂掌聲。第二及第三的終曲不但不夠強勁，更是全曲最弱的樂章，完結的味道不夠重。 碟二像Hamelin的布拉姆斯第二鋼琴協奏曲的CD一樣，都以晚期鋼琴獨奏小曲填滿。Hamelin能把音樂的淡淡餘暉彈出來，但我還是喜歡Hamelin在鋼琴四重奏中的雷霆。雖然我不想Hamelin錄得太多熱門曲目，如果Hyperion還想為他錄布拉姆斯的話，請叫他錄三首奏鳴曲吧。 Brahms: The Piano Quartets, Intermezzi, op.117 Marc-Andre Hamelin (piano) Leopold String Trio Hyperion CDA67471/2 (2 CD)  |

| [#1865] What are you listening to? 小冊子的文章，有DG近年的歪風。內文並非對樂曲的介紹，而是一篇鱔稿。第一段就將Grimaud及這個錄音讚到天上有地下無，全文不斷引Grimaud的感想，可是這些感想毫不專業，甚至你和我也說得出來：貝多芬很慘，要不斷掙扎之類。這種雜誌式的gimmick，一片空談，深度不足。再說Grimaud的演奏。她似乎想彈出一種巨人式的聲響，但巨響是否等同bang bang呢？不妨聽Gilels的貝多芬第五鋼琴協奏曲，既有巨人的氣魄，也有飽滿的聲響，又有柔和的慢板，一試聽便知龍與鳳。 聽頭幾分鐘，你就可感覺到這錄音的新鮮感，近年很少有如此快的皇帝，有如狂風掃落葉。再聽下去，這股狂風令人喘不過氣，琴音一直的去，沒有透氣的空間。我覺得Grimaud選錯了速度，不是說她的絕對速度太快，也不是她彈不到快的音符，而是她不能游有餘，駕馭不到這速度，反被這快速拉扯@。 此外，她的琴音太過硬，從第一樂章已經有打字機的傾向，到第二樂章音樂已經慢了不少，琴音還是沒有柔下來，聽3:13-3:32她用死力壓落琴鍵。其實她在全首協奏曲的琴音，可以用敲擊來形容，彈巴托就很合適。Jurowski與樂隊則配合得到她的怒濤，但小提琴卻間中缺乏溫暖。 第廿八奏鳴曲的第一及第三樂章，都是較為抒情，Grimaud挺harsh的按鍵又將貝多芬的「內心深處的感情」糟蹋，而且發覺她的legato不太穩妥，slur堶悸滬絳u得太清楚，反而沒有了句的感覺。同樣，第二樂章（進行曲）Grimaud好像也太快了，分不清八分音符加十六分休止加十六分音符，及附點八分音符加十六分音符的分別，彈不出這樂章的突兀感。 德里斯頓管弦樂團音色較暗淡, 弦樂細緻動人, 可惜銅管樂器演奏有點燥! 錄音工整自然 Beethoven: Piano Concerto No.5, Piano Sonata No.28 Helene Grimaud (piano) Staatskapelle Dresden Vladimir Jurowski DG 477 6595 (CD)  |
