[#59] Lightspeed Hi scallywag I want to have it grounded with the XLR pin... but yea, i did some readings, apparently its EXTREMELY difficult to make a lightspeed with XLR inputs. anyways, i replaced the stock power supply with some R core for the light speed (George) and it sounds 10 times better. just fyi..

Tannoy Eclipse...... ^^..... I'm also playing with Tannoy lately. I am looking forward to a pair of 50E with the Tannoy. |

[#56] Lightspeed Are the light Evas and lightspeed still the best pre-amp you can buy in the market? i currently own the Lightspeed from George with a aftermarket power supply, and it sounds very good. But now im looking for one with XLR inputs. any hope? I'm very bad at DIY...

[#55] Lightspeed 2 comparisons were made today: system 1: Sony DVD player-->DAC-->EVA2-->quad 306-->tannoy eclipse system 2: sony dvd player...>DAC-->Supratek cortese-->quad306-->tannoy eclipse Although the EVA2 sounded pretty good the cortese won without breaking into a sweat! The output impedance of the DAC should be fine but the quad306 has a 20kohm input impedance...matching wise it wasn't the best the EVA2 would had liked. Wish there was a Lightspeed that I could try....

[#54] Lightspeed Comparing with Pass B1, Eva2 is more detailed, more neutral, very convenient with the remote control. While B1 is more Hi-Fi, warmer sound.

[#53] Lightspeed my apologies for wrong information below, Eva III will not be rolled out any time soon as per the manufacturer.

[#52] Lightspeed CKL2, Wow, you must be their top buyer! Kok had just told me there are 2 EVA2 users in HK. You should perhaps write to him as he is very eager to know if you like it.

[#51] Lightspeed Wondered if upgrading the caps would help improve the resolution....I have the B1 and DCB1 boards but yet to get the parts to assemble them. Hope to do that soon : )

[#49] Lightspeed Good to know : ) So CKL2 what kind of coupling caps do you use in your B1?

[#48] Lightspeed Hi scallywag, Source: USB Monica + mojo + many power upgrades Power Amp: Charlize 2 + PH's power regulator Speakers: DCA4 fullrange with subwoofer Yes, it is always on. I don't know about EVA3! I think the advantage of LDR is details, details, details.

[#47] Lightspeed Hi CKL2, May I ask what are the sources/poweramp+speakers do you use? I wonder if you had achieved a good impedance match with the EVA. Would you know how long the unit takes to warm-up? Do you leave the unit switched-on all the time? BTW, I got an email from Kok on 3rd/Jan about the new stock of EVA2 but I've learnt they have an EVA3 in the pipeline so I'm waiting for the that. You might be the 1st EVA user in HK!

[#46] Lightspeed My Eva2 is received. Comparing with my PassDIY B1: - width of soundstage is similar - depth of soundstage is deeper - more details I changed the bundled 12V/1A SMPS to a DIY regulated PS. It is very convenient to have the Apple remote control: - +/- volume, 0 to 23, 24 steps - 3 inputs - mute/play button - display off to further reduce noise

[#43] Lightspeed Just order the 'Eva 2'. An LDR preamp with 3-input! It is around $2.8k with shipping.

[#42] Lightspeed I bet the response of the LDRs to light actually generates some kind of even harmonics to the signal and that kind of distortion makes music program sound more europhic to human ears, very much like carbon composite resistors do...in fact, the distortion is reported to be up to a 2 digit figure :P

[#41] Lightspeed though that still cost less than a pair of PEC pots anyways..... ------ ah! it is not a fair comparison. you still need the ancillary stuff to make it into a pot^-^
