588 now is a discontinued model now...replaced with G08..
2nd hand price about 16K ~18K.

I'm using 588 also. Mine have problem playing over about 78 minutes on some CDs. Do you have the same problem with the old CD-ROM? And the new DVD-ROM has the same problem?

jl, yes before my cdp also has this problem too, especialy cdr and some black color chinese cd. after change to new dvd, all problem was gone. plase call excel to check the stock status.

p.s. the old one on 588 also is a dvd rom, but in diff version. the front tray of the old one has some 條子凸紋, the new one is smooth.

tckl,do you know what brand the new dvd drive is?
someone said its come from Hitachi, or whatever. If you know what brand it is, you may desemble the laser head and diy.

I don't know how to diy the dvd head on 588, it think $1500 for excel handeling charges is worth, and 2500 for the dvd drive also is reasonable. as per my memories, the old one is korea made dvd rom.

I will seriously think about it. The magic of 588 is that you'll still regard it a great player even with this problem.

i haven't got any problem reading cd with my 588. just feel frustrating not able to play cd's with video tracks, e.g. soundtrack of isabella, mcmug vol.2, etc.

Anybody knows whre I can get the DSL-720A , I think its pretty cheap because its made in ShanHai China.
