[#424] QUAD ESL If you can find a pair of Beam Echo DL7-35 EL34 push pull monoblocks to drive the ESL57, you will like the sound. I listened to them in the Leak festival organised by the Rega designer, Terry Bateman, last October. The Beam Echo/Quad ESL combination was simply stunning. There was plenty of drive and very clean midrange, obviously one of the best ESL sound I have ever heard. The Radford STA15 also sounded very nice with the ESL. Hon

[#425] QUAD ESL Hon, There is a Radford MA25 on eBay. How does it compare with STA15. Beam Echo is extremely rare. Appreciate if you could keep an eye on any opportunity in UK.

[#429] QUAD ESL CP The Beam Echo DL7-35 monoblocks are very rare in UK. I have seen a few pairs in ebay.co.uk in the last 2 years for about 1000 pounds. I think there is a NOS pair in www.hifiworks.co.uk with an asking price of 3000 pounds. John Keung and Richard Yim know someone in HK has a pair of Beam Echo. Hon ![]()

[#430] QUAD ESL Hon Thanks for the info. 3000 pounds is really beyond my target. There is a pair in Choice HiFi asking for HKD30k+, also beyond my reach. I will now settle with the M9 and MC240 and try some more lower cost matches.

[#431] QUAD ESL That's Alex who has the pair of Beam Echos. Ginger, Richard and I visited his place the other day. The pair of monos drove a pair of LS3/5As, the results of which were very impressed. We also tried Ginger's Leak TL 25A as well. These two pairs of monos produced different sounds, but both were, of course, so pleasing.

[#432] QUAD ESL JL The V72/V73 drives the 3/5a and BC1 with extremely good result and I dare say if you have only heard the V73 driving the BC1 without the V72, you have only heard 50% of V73's full power. However, more recently I'm too addicted to the ESL charm and am therefore desparately trying to find a best match to bring out their full potential.

[#433] QUAD ESL Absolutely. We should visit your place again. We haven't auditioned the V72/73 combo, and even the ESL speakers, yet.

[#438] QUAD ESL I can imagine how good the sonic performance is, with Alex's Beam Echos driving ESL57s. I would like to add that, the results could even be better if the power tubes are better, say, KT77s or EL34 extended bases.

[#441] QUAD ESL rsbn I can't afford the vintage M9, mine is a pair of reissue. They are the very first batch though, it must now be close to 10 years since I bought them. I didn't do any mod and they are so far so good. They have a lot of drive and were the only amp that I was happy with when driving the ATC SCM20S that I once had. I didn't like the reissue M7 and I used them initially with Jadis JPS2, later changed to ARC Ref.1. Now they are mostly used with a transformer based passive preamp.

[#442] QUAD ESL I have auditioned M7 + M9 (both of the original version) driving LS3/5As. Just according to my personal feelings at a glimpse, I vote for Beam Echo. However, though very expensive compared with the other vintage EL34 amps, Beam Echo is so much cheaper than M9 original.

[#443] QUAD ESL Hi, cp, Choice hifi called back. They have no problem to let you approach their capenter. Please call Mr Wong (one of their boss) to discuss your requirement. Their tel:25263382 Frankly to me, I think 14" long wooden leg won't look well with the ESL. SO think twice before any commitment. Regards Dennis

| [#444] QUAD ESL Hi, Patrick, I saw this set of QUAD amo+pre-amp in eBay. The amp appear unmodified. The seller says shipping will be included. However, the seller's rating is not high enough and not much mentioning the condition. | [#452] QUAD ESL Dear Patrick, The US combo looks clean However, we need to clarify with the seller: 1) 220V or 110V operation? 2) Serial number of the QUAD II? The KT66 tube look like cheap stuff. If discounting the tubes, the QUAD II + 22 from US should worth HK$8K. A Quad match GEC KT66 NOS will cost another 2K to 3K HK$. the Mullard GZ32 and EF86 will cost another 1.5K. I would say the US system is not cheap enough. Any saying about the condition or any replacement done? Dennis |
