[#2171] Quad ESL speaker CP, Is the white cover Lp supposed to be a superior pressing than the red cover? I saw it once in eBay. Dear Patrick and CP, I am trying on the 1/6 position learnt from the current Audio Cite Nov issue. Not a bad idea to start with. Will extend the 1/6 and 1/4 idea for the long side of the room later. It was fun but a it rushing to introduce the antique tea to you and DJ today. Frankly, it would take a more and dedicated relaxing session to fully appreciate the antique tea.

[#2175] Quad ESL speaker Today, I woke up and had a sudden feeling that I'm missing something. After ingesting some cheap tea to wake me up, I surfed the net and, HO! Yes, dkyyu has a gathering that I forgot about! And so I rushed out and spent a few worthwhile hours in dkyyu's place! My second visit. The TT arm had been upgraded to EKOS, and the cartridge too! The VT75 are in place. Of course, the major difference is the new pair of OTA ESL57. There is no doubt things are even more dynamic. But I think there is a degree of tighteness no doubt due to the newness of the OTA. With time, things would surely reach new heights. The array of LPs played made it a fun party. But I think I've some surprises up my sleeve for Dennis. I really love Dennis' genuine nature and sincerity. We had an excellent conversation. Although I may not agree with everything Dennis said, I am really moved by his "motherly" nature and the care he so naturally exhibits for his friends. 更大的幸福還在後面!!! 真不知怎之峸e, 那陳年絕響普洱! 太幸福了! 如果可以選擇家庭的話,毫無疑問, ESL 是首選! 多謝, 有一天我肯定是其中一員!

[#2176] Quad ESL speaker I attended a tutorial on "tea-do" with a few dear friends at Dennis' yesterday. We behaved pretty well this time and were treated with a tasting session by Profession Tea which must have cost a few thousand bucks. It is just amazing how the Pu-Erh, which was made about the same year as I was made, escalated in value as well as in social status by just sitting there without doing anything whilst I work hard everyday but remain decadent all these years. The quality of these vintage Pu-Erh which has reached a rating of "a spring under the tongue" is actually not that difficult to appreciate and I was fascinated how the taste changed every minute with different rinsing. I enjoyed so much that at the end I had both "a spring under the tongue" and "a spring under the pants". Quite as what Dennis said, the aroma of the tea stayed in the mouth for as long as you want albeit I had a quick seep of a mocha before a concert in the evening. I like the taste so much that I dont want to rinse it away with the Listerine. Thanks Dennis for the lesson, the tea, the takeaways and the beautiful chinese music that go with them. For the next tea party, I'll bring my mug.

[#2181] Quad ESL speaker CP and DJ, I share same observation from DJ that the treble is a bit tight from the OTA relative to my last original pair. I understand the OTA treble panel, OTEC, is a completely new design by OTA's own engineer claiming with better frequency response. Frankly, the difference or the tightness is rather subtle to me and I guess I shall continue to monitor the progress until one full year burn-in period. I recall Powercord had once suggested before, the new OTA panel sounds 90% same as the original from beginning but needs a year to fully burn in for 100% target performance. ESL are almost 100% hand built though with cheap material. I always feel like touching a master piece of hand craftsmanshsip and hearing a live music instruments everytime when being with the ESL. Please click to the following OTA web-site for more on their OTEC panel: http://www.onethingaudio.com/OTA/9152-OTA-MAIN.htm

[#2183] Quad ESL speaker Dennis, To my ears, the minor problem comes from the bass panel. The bass is not as tuneful and tends to produce a one-note bass. Try to run them in with more rock music with loud and hard bass. The absence of some of the rear damping materials may also constitute such effect. Did you purposely remove them? The relatively short distance from the front wall requires all the damping materials there. I once tried to remove all the damping materials and placed the ESL 11' from the front wall. I got much deeper soundstage but for some unknown reasons, the imaging was not as vivid. Feikeung...................welcome back. We have yet to taste your fillet mignon. I really don't know what DJ mean with the hairy crab; he told me he's not into shares.

[#2184] Quad ESL speaker Dear Dennis, Hearty thanks for your music/tea session yesterday. I really enjoy the beautiful pulie tea, the music and the nice chitchat with our friends. I was very impressed as to how precious and rare these tea is. Thanks again for the genuine 紫砂 teapot and the favorite Alan Tam records. I look forward to learn more about tea tasting from the tea master. Your ESL57 sounds better and better. It has the true ESL57 standard and the unique musical charateristic. I would just sit back, relax and enjoy the music if I were you. Regds Patrick

[#2185] Quad ESL speaker Patrick, CP and DJ, Thank you for sharing your valuable time with me. Just drop in anytime for a cup of tea whenever feel free and pass by Hung Hom. I still have saved up a little other kinds of antique teas for sharing before their extinct. Frankly, although minor, I share same feeling with CP and DJ that some tightness noted. After reviewing the current set up and positioning, I notice some enhancements can be made by: 1) pull out the ESL 5 inches farther away from front wall such that both ESL are sitting exactly 1/6 along the long side of the room from solid wall to wall. This will also allow the ESL sitting almost 1/4 from solid rear wall to front wall bay window. 2) change the long mesh Mullard EF86 to old type fine mesh GEC729. Haha, the Z729 are my secret weapon not shown to anyone yet even Blue ray Edmond. Will try out tomorrow morning and further report.

[#2186] Quad ESL speaker The "Vintage-Tea" intensive course conducted by Dennis was really informative. The first time I learn that tea has "first growth" same as Red Wine. Dennis served us some first growth tea which does not exist in our planet anymore. According to Dennis, they were chop down during Culture Revolution. This is very sad. I wish Dennis preserve that tea and somebody would analysis the DNA and clone that DNA for reproduction. Obviously, it is improvement from compared last time I listen to his system. Dennis told us that he has followed the instructions from Audio Cite November issues concerning the placement of Loudspeaker. Look forward to seeing the difference of his magic GEC Z729.

(Dennis) ================================================= My term to say thank you for the vintage Pu-Erh served by Dennis. You won't come across many chances to taste those favour since the species no longer exist. Edmond's suggestion to preserve the DNA for cloning is well worth contemplated. I admire Dennis efforts to position ESL for perfect sounding. I wish I have his patience in setting my system. By the way, I have to dig up my Luxman turntable to play the vinyls by courtesy of Dennis. |

[#2192] Quad ESL speaker A cello bow by Francois Xavier Tourte has made nearly $200,000 in an on-line musical instruments auction. It was bought by a well-known European cellist who has chosen to remain anonymous. The bow, made between 1800 and 1810 by the maker most credited with refining the bow into the form it holds today, realised $196,000 when it was put on sale by Tarisio, an American on-line auction house that deals exclusively with musical instruments. It beat the previous record for a bow by Tourte of $152,856 and represents the highest figure ever paid for a bow of any type at auction. The bow, known as the "Ex-Romberg", is described by Jason Price of Tarisio as the star of the show; despite other lots that achieved higher prices. The bow"s first owner was Bernard Romberg, the German cellist and composer (and friend of Beethoven), who almost certainly bought the bow directly from Tourte. It subsequently passed into the ownership of Alfredo Piatti, for use with his Stradivari (still known as the "Piatti" and one of the best-preserved Stradivari cellos in existence); his pupil, Robert von Mendelssohn (cousin of Felix); Max Adler (owner of the Sears Roebuck company in the United States) and Edmund Kurtz, principal cellist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. It is the bow's complete and unbroken provenance that is the most significant element of its sale: the lack of any doubt over authenticity adding considerable weight to its value. Although the buyer remains anonymous, Price says: tThey will make sure it is heard frequently on concert stages around the world. The bow was the most successful lot in a sale that grossed over $4,000,000, making it the second highest musical instruments auction on record, bettered only by Christie's New York earlier this year in a sale that included the "Hammer" Stradivari violin. ----Gramophone----- ![]()
