| [#7743] Original Box for Sonic Frontier 3 audiofan, Do let us know the progress of your ESL. As Patrick pointed out, the borken bit should not affect the panel operation and we have a strong belief your ESL should work fine without needing panel replacement. If all problem solved without recurrence in a week or two, may I suggest you to seal up the panel with some plastic sheet to safeguard against electric shock, dust and moisture. Then put the metal grille back and it's done. Should be a simply task only. Remember to unplug the ESL at least one day before touching the panel. Have a nice weekend listening to your ESL up and run again. |

| [#7723] Quad ESL QUAD ESL is very good at dynamic, mirco-dynamic and transient resolutions with seamless coherence and tonal accuracy, a speaker for genuine music lovers rather than for Hi-Fi Yaus. Indeed some recording engineers in classical music labels also widely uses QUAD ESL as monitor to do mastering and mixing of multi-tracks, QUAD is especially good at low-level resolution, you aint need a headnbanger and exxgerating volume to listen all the details and nuance emanated from the acoustic instrument and vocal. Some speaker designer like ALON WOLF (MAGICO) and SOLUTION also emphasizes how great ESL sounds and treat ESL as their reference target. In contrast to those who criticized / teased him, Dennis ESL setup was one of the best ESL combo I have ever come across when it replayed the PHILIPS recording (Mullova plays Brahms Violin Concerto with BPO under the baton of Abbado). Highly appreciate Dennis warmest greeting this Feb and Very much obliged for his hearfelt advice about ESL. | [#7722] Quad ESL Dear icefox and Ken, I totally agree with you that Dennis is the best host in all music sessions held. Despite all the "harsh and non-constructive comments" being thrown at, he took it with a smile, and continue to serve his guest with the best possible stuff (drinks/snacks). I felt that, almost all the music session held in Dennis place were more of a social get-together, having fun event, rather than a serious music appreciation. Gangs chit-chat, social, drinking wine, beer, tea, enjoying themselves. Perhaps the "harsh/non-constructive comments" were just a way of teasing our best host. Making fun of him. I am sure they all respect Dennis' effort and enthusiasm in the Quad ESL field. The way I look at the gangs comments against Quad ESL music session held at his residence is that, It is rather unfair to judge the performance of an ESL speaker using the standard of a traditional box speaker, such as unable to reproduce strong, deep bass. unable to play at very loud sound level etc.. We must understand, due to the unique character of the Quad ESL, which the construction of the speaker is extremely fragile, it definitely do NOT have the capability to take the torture test like the other type of speakers. Doing so will cause permanent damage to the diaphragm. Some people in the Web commented, the Quad ESL is not for HiFi lovers. It is merely for music listeners. If your music preference is into dynamic effect, go look some where else. What do you think? Regds Patrick |

| [#7721] Quad King and Quad Master It is all because of Dennis, the King of Quad in HK who have several pairs of Quad ESL.... I met Dennis 2 years because I wanted to ask him about how to set up LP12.... and I first heard Quad ESL. Dennis opened my eyes and ears and taught me lots about Quad ESL and he changed my target and my speakers and amps since... Then I met Patrick, the Quad master who showed me ESL57 can be play well in a 8'x8' room and help me to fixed my EHT. May I say, from my heart, Dennis and Patrick, thank you so much. I cannot think of a better host than him. May I have a suggestion for you? If it's possible, keep the boxes at Dennis's boot, then we arrange a session good for Dennis, daiwok, you and I, then we can have a private ESL exploration session at my shack. During that time, Dennis could drive the box and stuff to me with you. If that is not possible, I would be happy to come to your place for a taste of the magic cubicle again before I grab the boxes. I'll be more than happy to to meet with you for a music session to experience the ceiling shaking bass in a 800 sq ft of space. It may be a new exploration for me. It sounds impossible to me because, as far as I know, ESL57 is excellent in reproducing midrange. Deep bass is it's weak point. I have, in the past tried to boost the bass by connecting a servo sub-woofer with it. It ended up that the entire sonic spectrum changed. The bass was too slow to match the midrange and highs. The soundstage disappeared. The unique magic of the ESL57 no longer existed. My beloved ESL57 just sound like a regular boxed speaker. I have also acquired a pair of double Quad made by Radio People in Hong Kong. The sonic characteristic was entirely different from the single ESL57. It is true that the bass response greatly improved and it can played much louder. But the magic of the ESL57 totally lost. I listened to it for about 6 months and finally let it go to one of my friend in San Francisco. I visited that friend last year and listened to that double Quad again. I don't have a tiny bit of regret that I sold it. It has come to my conclusion that, as far as Quad ESL57 is concerned, SINGLE QUAD IS THE BEST!!!!!! period!!!!!!
