| [#1] Mac CAS 同好會 Bought a Macbook as source for my tube amps a few week ago and want to learn more about Mac based CAS from the C'hing here. Many of the other threads on CAS here are related to Windows-based systems and I am keen to know more about setups and solutions which are available to Mac/Macbook. I bought the entry level Macbook without knowing that Firewire is no longer available as an opinion after mid-2009, so I can only connect my Macbook to DAC using Toslink or USB. So far I found Toslink to sound better than USB and it also allows me to output 24/96 file or up-sample to 24/96. I used iTune for CD ripping (with error-correction enable) and playback and kept my files in WAV and AIFF. The result is not bad but inferior to playing back the same CD using CD transport and the same DAC. Interesting, I found that real-time playback using iTune and the drive inside the Macbook to be still better than from WAV/AIFF. So I believe the iTune ripping is far from perfect. As EAC is not available for Mac, what alternative do I have to improve CD ripping? |

| [#5] Mac CAS 同好會 I have a number of DAC but the Macbook were connected to Musiland MD10, ICL Model 2 with 2x Telefunken E188CC, and the new Eastern Electric MiniMax DAC with Telefunken 6211. I used Wireworld Starlight USB cable but just cheap plastic Toslink cable. |

| [#10] Mac CAS 同好會 I also use iTunes to rip CD as it is the easiest way. If you want a better ripping software, you can use xld. | [#11] Mac CAS 同好會 From what I learned so far, the USB output of Mac is limited to 16-bit/44.1kHz and the Toslink output is limited to 24-bit/96kHz, regardless of what your DAC is capable for receiving and decoding. Does anyone know if the above limits can be bypassed as I have some 24-bit/192kHz WAV file to try? Firewire is not an option as mentioned. |

| [#20] Mac CAS 同好會 I think tube-based DAC work particularly well with CAS. The ICL Model 2 worked exceptionally well with software 24/96 up-sampling from the Macbook.  |
