I don't know so much ....about this ...
But in Japan JVC mastering center .....
they did use some normal hifi tools in their studio for testing songs playback quality

the photo is Sugimoto san in JVC studio ...

he still using a Victor CDP ......

It is not strange to find that professional studio use normal hifi CDP to playback. One of the major objective in mastering is to master a sound which will sound good for majorty for the target market (in most case, it is the mass market, not audiophie market) It make sense to use equipments similar to normal user.
