| [#9251] LS3/5A Club Gingers, I never own a tube amp before. I think I'll need either one good integrated tube amp or one pre-power tube amp to use mainly with LS3/5a such as my current KEF or future Sterling. I have no specific preference as to which kind of music I listen to. Mostly I listen to jazz vocal, rock, classic. Now I'm quite confused about choices of tube amp. I used to have my eye on Rogers E40a, Prima Luna Prologue I, a prototype Rogers Cadet amp, Quad II-40. After entering the review33 world, the tube amp choices expand even more! Still I cannot make a decision yet. Please help. BTW, I'm not a technician. Therefore I'm concerned about repairing and maintenance of vintage amps. I'm also thinking about buying a REL sub woofer to use with LS3/5a to help with the low end when listening to rock or classic. What is your opinion on using sub woofer with LS3/5a system? I TRY to build a few good LS3/5a systems and listen to music not equipment. I'm sure your feedback can surely help me because you are into LS3/5a and tube amp. :) Thank you. |

| [#9252] LS3/5A Club watha I collected a number of vintage tube amplifiers for my LS3/5A. Leak TL/12 Point one is my recomendation. TL/25A is also good but it is rare. Other Leak tube amplifiers also matches LS3/5A well. Better listen before buying. Are you in Hong Kong? John |

The only place where I think I can find TL/12 is ebay. Anywhere else except your home ;)? Gingers, I'm quite concerned about repairing and maintenance of vintage amps. Is it difficult? And if I have to replace something in the TL/12 such as a resistor or capacitor, will it affect the sound it can produced when it is in its original state? Could you explain why vintage amp such as Leak is better than those new valve amps I listed above? |
