OK. He spent the whole day in the toilet yesterday.
I invited him to go to my place tomorrow. If he comes, he will definitely visit you. Although he did not feel well today, he spent more than four hours to visit the shops :-) - #13910 [Gingers], 07-01-23 21:41Re: [hktubeaudio] Re: WE 124B vs. Leak TL12.1
Hi! Everyone!
Good morning!
I am not an expert in audio and I just happened to like vintage items including the vintage hifi equipements.
The WE124, in my opinion, allows one to listen to music in a very relaxed manner without feeling tired or feeling strained to the ears even after several hours. If there is any words that can describe the charateristics of 124, I think my choice of words would be natural, pure and smooth.
The Leak TL12.1, with GEC KT66 tubes and the TCC capacitors, it sounded much more sweet and more open and tranparent with more extension of the high and low. It is very difficult to compare the two as the characteristics and the the way they reprodcuce music is also different.
With 2 pair of amplifiers, comparison between the two in term of performance is inevitable. However, given the variables factors such as different tubes used and circuits, an A /B comparison will be difficuilt. Using the analogy of the motor vehicle, perhaps the WE124 is like the Mercedes, elegance and smooth while the Leak TL12.1 is like the BMW with much more energy, force and punch. Both the Mercedes and BMW will ultimately bring you to the destination but the experience of the ride will be different indeed..
Just my 2 cents.. Enjoy!
Cheers
Francis

Gingers,
I think Maxbliss is forced to draw the analogy of Mercedes and BMW as in the era of 12.1, there isn't really any significant america models that can be compared to their european counterpart.
It is however also inappropriate to represent the 12.1 by the BMW as in that period, the only BMW model is the 507 which has now become the Z3, the look of which has absolutely no resemblance to the 12.1 nor the performance any implication of its sonic character. - #13913 [cpsjj], 07-01-23 23:31
It may be more appropriate to represent 12.1 with the Rolls Royce Silver Wraith which was made at about the same time and has a look more similar to the 12.1. - #13914 [cpsjj], 07-01-23 23:40

The experience of the ride may not be that different with the modern Merc S500 and BMW 745i, but the experience of driving them will be completely different. - #13915 [cpsjj], 07-01-23 23:50
From the description of Maxbliss, the analogy may more appropriately be the Lincoln suspension compared with Jaguar suspension. - #13916 [Gingers], 07-01-24 20:14有無黃大仙Hi-Fi友

----------------------------------------
Tannoy Ltd is a British manufacturer of loudspeakers and public-address (PA) systems. The company was founded as Tulsemere Manufacturing Company in London in 1926.
The name Tannoy is a syllabic abbreviation of tantalum alloy, which was the material used in a type of electrolytic rectifier developed by the company. The brand had been trademarked by 10 March 1932, on which date the Tulsemere Manufacturing Company was formally registered as Guy R. Fountain Limited.
It became a household name as a result of supplying PA systems to the armed forces during World War II, and to Butlins and Pontins holiday camps after the war. Tannoy is now based in Coatbridge in Scotland, and is part of the Danish-based TC Group. Tannoy is famous for its "dual concentric" speaker design which places the tweeter behind the center of the bass driver.
The term "tannoy" in colloquial British English is used generically to mean any public-address system, and although the word is a registered trademark, it has become a genericised trademark. The company's intellectual property department keeps a close eye on the media and will often write to publications using its trade name without a capital letter or as a generic term for P.A. systems, in order to preserve its trademark.

My LEAK Stereo 20 that was bought to DiDi's place to drive the Tannoy Westminster this afternoon. In comparison with Gingers' pair of LEAK TL/25+, ST-20 sounded sweeter in mid to high range, but the TL/25+ has deeper bass and more punch. - 下一頁 (696 of 1346)
