40Gbps 傳輸速率，USB Promoter Group 發布全新次世代 USB4 傳輸架構
今時今日，不少產品及用戶對數據傳輸速度要求越來越高，規格因此亦不繼推陳出新，這次 USB Promoter Group 便於數日前發布了全新次世代 USB4 初步傳輸架構，預計正式版本將於 2019 年中旬推出。
由 USB Promoter Group 日前發布的 USB4 版本，其架構採納了英特爾（Intel）提供的 Thunderbolt 協定規範，並提供更快的數據傳輸速率，透過 40Gbps 認證線材可實現高達 40Gbps（Gigabits per second，每秒 10 億位元）的傳輸速率。
而終端亦採用了現有的 USB-C（也就是 USB Type-C），線材可進行雙通道傳輸，不過要注意的是，傳輸過程中包括器材、線材，甚至乎中間的任何集線器，均要符合 USB4 架構，才能具備上述傳送速度，而線材亦將以 USB-C 為主流。
另一方面，USB4 可有效共用匯流排的可用頻寬，意味著未來用戶將透過 USB 線材，傳送 4K HDR 訊號、傳輸文件檔案、連接網路到 Wi-Fi 介面等。
不過就目前資料所知， USB4 並不代表就是 USB 4.0，有鑑於 USB-IF 在規格命名稍為亂，因此目前還不清楚 USB4 標準公布後的第一個 USB 規格名稱，一切需要等到今年中旬發布後才明朗。

The USB4 architecture is based on the Thunderbolt™ protocol specification recently contributed by Intel Corporation. It doubles the bandwidth of USB and enables multiple simultaneous data and display protocols.
As the USB Type-C™connector has evolved into the role as the external display port of many host products, the USB4 specification provides the host the ability to optimally scale allocations for display data flow. Even as the USB4 specification introduces a new underlying protocol, compatibility with existing USB 3.2, USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt 3 hosts and devices is supported.
According to the USB Promoter Group “The primary goal of USB is to deliver the best user experience combining data, display and power delivery over a user-friendly and robust cable and connector solution,” said Brad Saunders, USB Promoter Group Chairman. “The USB4 solution specifically tailors bus operation to further enhance this experience by optimizing the blend of data and display over a single connection and enabling the further doubling of performance.”
Key characteristics of the USB4 solution include:
-Two-lane operation using existing USB Type-C cables and up to 40 Gbps operation over 40 Gbps-certified cables
-Multiple data and display protocols to efficiently share the total available bandwidth over the bus
-Backward compatibility with USB 3.2, USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt 3.
At this point you may be thinking “we have only just started to see the rollout of USB C devices so does mean we will all have to upgrade again soon?”
A fair question however, we believe that this is a natural transition to a faster more adaptive connector system. What is good about this is because it is based on the USB C Connector system (which is miles better than traditional USB A Connectors being easy to plug in any way around) it means in the future devises will have many more options taking what was a humble printer cable to becoming your one stop shop for connectivity.
For example, you can use this to connect to your printer but also your monitor, power your laptop or have multiple adapters including ethernet and well who knows what else we will see what this system will be doing in the future.
