i didn't buy the amp from george but i did test out the ldr as a volume control. they are very nice albeit coloured to my taste. if you are looking at ldr without a buffer, you have to be careful about your input impedance of your amp. if is over 50k i think, you will be fine.

thanks for the reply.
so looking forward to hearing a set from someone in HK, the Lightspeed itself.

Sam Tellig review in Stereophile December/January, he bought one for himself back in October and is very impressed with it. He makes reference to it in the December issue and reports about it in the January issue.

My tube poweramp has high input impedance this is what the Lightspeed Attenuator loves.

I think the general rules to getting the best results should be:
1: Low source impedence (cd player) 50k

I know there are a few commercial/DIY/kits preamps that had incorporated the LDR but I like to hear the purist form in the Lightspeed....

purist? if you look at its schematic. it is almost a replica from silonex application note.

oops, didn't realize I made a typo-error, I meant purest form. I'll rephrase it if i may....I would just like to hear the Lightspeed itself.
However, schematics is schematics, George is not a fool to show his actual circuitry to the diy forum as his intention is to put his years of experience into $/profit. If any local guys can make a better one (+ cheaper), I'll consider buying locally :-)

there is nothing much except the LDR. granted there are some power supply albeit rudimentary and some VR. the pain would be the matching of these not so consistent LDR. that's why some guy did a digital control version to eliminate the matching.

if you want to try out the sound of these, it would easy enough to do a battery version.
