If you are just change the smps to LPS, no big change until you use M4 SSD and add capacitors on LPS, then there is a huge difference. In fact, I am planning to expand my SSD storage to play music direct from 212j Audio Station to DAC, I spotted that streaming from pogoplug is almost the same sonic as play direct, then I turned to pogoplug-VAMP which uses HDD, save a lot of money in storage. | [#247] Logitech Squeezebox Replacement I'm using no name brand, but wifi support is quite limited with VAMP due to the fact that it is not using the latest 3.2 kernel. I bought mine on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-802-11-n-g-b-Wifi-Wireless-LAN-Adapter-with-2dBi-Antenna-Ralink-3070-chipset-/281089899306?pt=US_USB_Wi_Fi_Adapters_Dongles&hash=item4172437b2a Ralink 3070 works well (802.11n). Ralink 2070 (11.g) also works, but for some reason, the sound is not as good. Ralink 3072 does not work and I've D-Link DWA-140 rev B2 and Buffalo 300N-v1, both didn't work (driver loads, but connection was extremely flaky). Also, D-Link DWA-127 does not work even it has 3070 chipset. This wifi dongle/antenna is only supported in 3.2 kernel, after much research. |

| [#248] Logitech Squeezebox Replacement I spent some more time to play with my Pogo/VAMP V0.4 image. I found it is a lot better through the VAMP to my Benchmark DAC1 than a direct USB to a desktop computer. This gadget has the highest C/P that I ever had in playing hifi. |

| [#253] Community Squeeze OS There is now a community Squeeze OS project going on, which makes use of the Wandboard: http://www.communitysqueeze.org/index.jsp http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?98544-Community-Squeeze-OS-R3 It is based on the Wandboard hardware: http://www.wandboard.org It is not something as cheap as the Pogoplug, but for US$103 ($99 is the student price), you get a significantly more powerful hardware than the Pogoplug, similar to the Cubox but for a lesser price: Cortex A9 Dual core (1GHz), 1GB DDR3 RAM, 802.11n Wifi, Bluetooth, optical S/PDIF, audio out, HDMI, plus an emerging new standard EDM connector. The hardware is powerful enough to host LMS (together with the Squeezelite player) with nice running speed. On a separate thread, someone is working on a DAC board which can be plugged into the EDM connectors. The attempt is to replace the SBT completely but with a better DAC chip. |

| [#257] Logitech Squeezebox Replacement I think the reason to use the Wandboard is that there is a community of developers on it and I see things being developed and debugged very quickly on that platform. Whether it sounds good with a USB DAC/USB S/PDIF converter is another question. There are people using Raspberry Pi. But I read that the USB controller is buggy on the Pi and it drops data packets. The Wandboard has full EHCI USB controller. Not sure if the Pogoplug has full EHCI USB controller. |
